The one plus point for me on Saturday was the sight of Mido, JOB, and RNL all returning to action. And we looked a far more creative side for it. Until Wiseman and Foster decided to lump it for the last 10 minutes. Now, for me, Mido should remain on a strict fitness regime, and be used from the bench if need be, until he finds that sharpness. The guy hadn't played for over a year before we signed him. Then the injury. Plus he's always been a big lad. So I don't get our own fans slating him about his condition. Did he look like he was here to waste away, pick up a wage? Not to me he didn't. He looked like he wanted it. Enthusiasm and endeavour. He might not do owt, but I won't grief a bloke with his footballing CV based on 25 minutes after 18 months out. . JOB looked lively, but again, his sharpness was lacking, obviously. U21 games don't work. Both he and Mido need time off the bench to get up to speed. Good to see them back. On Mido, you know he went in for that tackle on adrenaline. He was welcomed like a returning God. And so he wanted to please us, make an impression. Btw, he reads this forum, he's told me. . Anyway, the point of the thread - do you think we should see Reuben given his chance? Not a sub appearance when behind, out of position, but central, up top, from the start? Or do we persist with habitual failures like Etuhu, Done, Dagnall and Harewood (who had his best game on Saturday IMO)?
I thought he looked very lively when he came on and put some excellent balls into the box. Based on that 25 minute cameo - yes. There may be other reasons why he doesn't play though. Mido - despite his obvious lack of sharpness I was pleased to see him play. He won some decent headers, his shot on the turn was on target despite me thinking he'd sky it and he was obviously willing to work for the team. That tackle was hilarious. JOB - love his enthusiasm and his first touch was the excellent turn in the middle of the park. I genuinely think that showboating sparked us back into life. Think a fit JOB would have finished that chance at the back post but it'll come with time.
I would say yes Merlin. I thought hes learned from the manager and the rest of the staff. He made it quite obvious that he wanted the ball and he wanted to do something with it. in a 4231 with o'brien and mellis behind mido or davies he would be the the player you would want. he could swap with davies because he likes to drift because although my opinion is hes not an out and out striker but in the way we play he could do 5 mins up there. hes a very good crosser and hes got one hell of a shot which would allow him to drop inside and either get in the box or at the edge and allow Golbourne to get forward which would let us get mellis and rnl 1 on 1 and they will do the stuff needed to set up goals or score themselves. My Granddad that day was at him, hes not done this and hes not done that. He doesn't seem to understand hes been injured a lot and learning new things when hes not been. He'll be more defensively aware too now also. AND HES NINETEEN not TWENTYONE . I'm hoping people aren't going to expect Digby just to turn it on when he gets in to team maybe next season.
Prem teams v championship teams Prem play the ball into the space where it should be played for players to run onto. We always play the ball to the player. This slows down the attacks and we just dont get in behind them. Mido played a couple of great balls INTO SPACE and we got behind them. Refreshing to see just that! He looked a hell of a lot more fitter and confident in himself than we saw in the Mido at Rotherham. He just needs more game time, more fitness and obviously still a few more pounds to shed. But hes getting there!!! If you are reading Mido - keep up the good work. You will get there and prove the doubters wrong. Id deffo keep playing Mido as a sub when other players have tired a little and as the weeks progress he'l get better and better. Hopefully he'l be bang on time to score 3 v SWFC live on Sky. Him and Davies could be a real threat up front. And RNZ looked good when he came on. He actually ran at them and took shots! My word. Weve been so desperate for that. JOB also looked well up for it but tired quickly - he just needs more games.
Yes, I thought Harewood was much better on Saturday. So was Etuhu to be fair. We know Harewood is capable of much better and Etuhu really hasn't had much game time. My issue with Dagnall is that he doesn't look like he is going to score many - and we need goals. He has had a decent run in the team but becasue he didn't score, his place was always going to be under threat. I like Done as a finisher, but we just don't get him into the right positions.
