Has anybody seen the new plans for the town centre? I've had a quick look but can't tell if they've been scaled back or not
Never go into town anymore, prefer Wombwell for the free parking even if it is full of fat tattooed chavs.
It might be a dump of a town..........but its my town Love it Market Hill with the Town Hall at the top of the hill is the best street in the WORLD !!! And I've seen a few. I wouldn't live anywhere else in the country..........although I would live abroad in a hotter climate........preferably India
I've just had the Email through, and I'm not sure. The cinema seems awfully small though (and in the wrong place) Edit. Actually, it's not small, just in the wrong place.
If I'm looking at the plans correctly then the first image is the ground floor and the second image is the upper floor so the small cineam in the top image is simply the entrance to it, surrounded by restaurants. the actual cinema covers the entire new building in the upper floor.
The cinemas big you're looking at the lower floor, all the cinema is on the second floor. Impressed with those plans, alongside the town hall area it's turning into a nice town centre. Hopefully the rest of the town will have the paving and road resurfacing work done to it. Next we need the names back in to drive out all the *****.
It's definitely changed quite a lot, the cinema wasn't there originally and I don't think there was a new multi-storey car park originally either? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
These are the revised plans that were originally announced in 2014 when the council took over the project and it had a revised cost of £40 million after private investment couldn't be found. It's the third lot of plans since the infamous halo design, they all included a new cinema.
Aren't these even more revised plans? I'm sure the last ones they released didn't match the ones released today. In the last lot the multi story was to be where triggers is/was, in the ones today they look to be on the former carpet right site
Sorry I meant the cinema wasn't in this location on the previous plans I saw, seemed like it was down where the new shopping precinct is. Not sure what the budget is now, I believe it's a bit more than £40m but a far cry from the original scheme of about ten years ago now - they were looking at something in the region of £350m for that...I doubt that would have ever got going regardless of the financial crash. Not that l know of, they have added things like the library but in the main they are the same since the council took over the project, the cost's gone up though. They have changed the car parking introducing a new multi storey, originally it was a small car park. Yes, the cinema on the second lot of plans was going to be situated where the indoor market is.
Better for the town where it is increases footfall on a night which is what they're aiming for. Pubs and restaurants should benefit.
So has the council won with their plans for the cinema then? I thought there were plans for it to be on the Alhambra? Personally, I think that would work better, so you'd have cinema up there with restaurants in area and toward New Street. The Wellington Street where pubs start.
Wellington Street wants bulldozing, the cinema plans are spot on, it's surrounded by restaurants. The Alhambra is privately owned by BMO Real Estate, they still have planning permission to build one but probably won't want to compete.
