I'm being thick, sorry, but who allowed that clause in McIndoe's contract? I think I read somewhere that he & Togwell weren't signed by Ritchie (might be wrong like). So if it wasnt Ritchie, who allowed that unfortunate clause in? Yours incredibly densely Ali
what do you mean allowed? both parties agreed to it, presumably coz he wouldn't sign otherwise. That clause always meant his stay wouldbe a short one.
As I understand it Even if the manager signs a player, it only means the signing was on his say so. It is the club chairman who actually agrees and signs the contract. Gordon Shepherd did say, though, that without this clause he wouldn't have come at all so I guess better some good games, a few goals and a modest profit than nowt at all.
We could have insisted that any offer from a buying club which ignited the clause would give us a generous profit rather than a modest one.
Was there really a clause to allow him out on loan whenever he pleased? I fully appreciate that there was no benefit to keeping him here if he wanted to leave, but did we do anything to generate any sort of interest with other clubs? Effectively, he was on the transfer list the moment he arrived.
Incidentally, McIndoe similarly went out on loan to Derby last season and they decided against keeping him. I'm hoping that Wolves don't have any chance to "welsh out" of this deal now that one has been allegedly struck.
