Why has anyone not taken a punt on this lad? Fair enough, he's only plying his trade in the league of Wales, but jesus, his goal scoring ability is certainly eye catching. So far this season, he's bagged 20 goals in 13 games, and in the past 7 seasons, he's stuck the ball away more than 220 times in around 200 games. He's 28 now, so if anyone was going to take a gamble on the lad, now would be the time. I'd certainly be trying to get him in. Tall as well, and as well as his 220+ goals, as an abundance of assists to go with them.
Every player we suggest on here never gets signed so there int any point making a thread about it. I agree though, surely worth a punt.
rather buy a striker from a higher level for a little bit more and at a younger age so theres time for him to develop.
Precisely. I reckon the lad would be worth a gamble. Who said 'Because he's 28'? Idiot. Macken is 31, and he's doing a pretty good job. Another lad I'd be tempted to take a look at, is Danny Welbeck from United. Loan deal anyone?
D/T...try to get a grip on reality. THOSE ARE THE PLAYERS THAT ARE IN OUR PRICE RANGE. For the first time in years, we have had the luxury of being able to spend £1 million on a player. For Barnsley FC, that is absolutely MASSIVE. We simply can't afford to do that on a regular basis, so for the likes of Ward/Griffiths etc...those are the type of players we should be looking at. Unless, we get a substantial cash injection.
He's 28 playing in a level lower than the conference. Mackens played the majority of his career in the top three divisions.
I don't know about you... but I'd rather buy someone for fairly cheap who knows where the back of the net is. There'll be time for buying prospects for the future when we can start a season relatively safe in the knowledge that we'll finish mid table.
i have i'm not suggesting a 28 year old pub league player as a possible answer to the goal shortage at oakwell. if he as early 20's then he'd be worth a punt.
What about Kevin Doyle? Not good enough? Nah, of course not, he was playing in a level lower than the conference. Oh, wait a second...
Mate - 28 is NOT old. How the hell can you even bring that into it? 28... Teddy Sheringham was still scoring goal last season in the Championship, and he was 41 for Christs sake. Same goes for Windass. Open your mind a little...
it is for pinching from the really lower leagues. Few players regardless of age make the jump to a higher level and continue their form. A 28 year old will be hitting his peak and his career will start to wain in the seasons after that. A young player has infinatley more potential to improve thus last longerat a higher level
I was gunna say andy morrell came from the welsh league and hes had a pritty good career in english football, same goes for lee trundle who came from southport and rhyl hardly the theatre of dreams but trundle has also had a good career.
