BARNSLEY boss Andy Ritchie will look to sign striker Marc Richards on a long term contract before the end of the year after being given the go ahead at last week's board meeting.

Marc has made 20 first team appearances since joining the Reds, hitting five goals, and has established himself as first choice alongside Paul Hayes.

Andy told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk: "We have been given the go ahead to discuss a new contract with Marc and his agent so we will look at doing something this week. We want to get things sorted sooner rather than later".

Richards is one of the few who I wouldn't want to sign....the others being.....

Richards first........not good enough in this league so what will happen if we go up....... we will need at least 2 more strikers.
Hayes.......heard some good reports about him from past few matches which I have missed....but for me, the jury is still out on this player
Paul Read.....good player....injury prone .......get rid
Mat Carbon.....good player....injury prone .......get rid

If you think we should get rid of Hayes, Carbon and Reid you havent been to many games this season. "Jury still out on Hayes" - he is our top scorer FACT and prob has the most assists. Great signing from Ritchie.
Your post should be deleted for the level of ******** it contains.

Explanation here...............

Hayes.......how many on here were pulling Hayes to peices only a few weeks ago
Last game I saw was Tranmere at home
I haven't seen the last few matches but up to that time Hayes was terrible
As for Reid and Carbon..I have said all along that if these 2 played together on a regular basis we would now be top of the league
Problem is.....how many times have they started together this season???????
We haven't any real cover for these 2
Kay is not a central defender
Hassel is too small
So I would get rid of Reid and Carbon and bring 2 experienced (early 30s) centre halves in that play week in week out
Alternatively ...bring 2 more centre halves in and have Reid and Carbon in the reserves.......just in case they feel like playing at some point in their career

Fair enough. I can understand you if the last game you saw was Tranmere. Basially Hayes is on fire. He had the game of his life against Scunny, scoring and assisting 2/3. This with his 2 goals against Bradford. The jury isnt still out on him.
Reid and Carbon are 2 of the best central dfenders in this division (on their day). hopefully they will start together against Hartlepool.

Who says we are skint ??? !!!!

The Chairman of the club dunt say we are skint
In fact he says the opposite..the club is constantly looking to strengthen the squad
As for the team.......I think we are lacking at central defence and the forward line
The spine of the team is not ready for promotion
This may prove to be costly this season

I quite happy with that, he plays for the club, works hard , is still young, fits in with the squad,is looking to achieve and doesn't want an arm and a leg for the opportunity to do so..
I would offer him a two year deal though, not sure what they mean by (long term deal)....five years?

hopefully a contract until the end of the season. I dont think hes done enough (5 goals in 20) for a 2 year + contract.

as far as I'm aware, he's currently buying a house next door to Antony Kay (who lives next door to a family member of mine) - so, it looks likely it'll happen eh!!?!? [IMG]

Young Nudger, young probably, but with very little Brain or a total lack of knowledge of the the great game. Richards, although not the best of forwards, still as a lot to offer, and is a very hard working, still young enough to improve. Which he no doubt will. Hayes is a first rate forward, he is frustrated because he his not getting the supply of passes to his feet which he wants all the time to make him a great forward.Paul Read is a young defender, and a good one at that, sooner have him on our side, than of the oppositions. And as for Carbon, ok.he his injury prone but how many times has he been the man of the match when he as played. Go and lie down Nudger, play with thi ****, and stop dreaming things up that tha knows **** all about.

Quatermass........if I didn,t know owt.....how come

I have been saying that we need 2 central defenders all season, ask around, other people on here will put thi straight
And how come recently I have been saying we need another attacker
And then
What does Ritchie do.........
Signs Watt...... a central defender
And then shockingly, tries to sign an attacker in the last transfer window but fails

Please think before you print :D :D :D
