Cricket commentator and former Australian Test captain Richie Benaud has been honoured with a life-size statue at the SCG. The sculpture was today unveiled as the first of ten life-size statues to be erected around the Sydney Football Stadium and Sydney Cricket Ground, with three more cricketers, two rugby league players, two rugby union players and two AFL players also set to feature. The legendary commentator said he was honoured to have his statue grace the ground where his first-class career began. "To be given the honour of having the first sculpture here is deeply appreciated and a great honour," Benaud said as hundreds gathered behind the Ladies Stand for the unveiling of the statue ahead of the third's day play in the second Test. Benaud debuted for NSW at the SCG in 1948 and notched up 259 games for his home state. He also made his Test debut at the ground in 1951-52, going on to take 248 wickets in 63 Tests.
He's Very Much A Legend It's just a shame the record 7th wicket partnership at the SCG (which he was part of), got broke in the test match he gets honoured.
