"We have no intention of bringing in a defender, we have a plethera of cover in that department and I cant see the point of bringing in someone to warm the bench..."

" A striker is our priority, Danny is not yet fit and we need some cover"

Does he know what he is on about? talk about contradiction.

Andy, either keep shtum or think abart what you are going to say to the press before you actually say it.

We are looking at the Chelsea model.

    Only 2 CH's required!

    But...

Just over a week ago, you were all complaining about the desperate need for a striker as Hayes (4 in 5) and Richards (3 in 6) weren't good enough.

He can't really do right, can he?

(PS: I do agree we need another centre half.)

    The way I see it

    1. We aren't pushing for promotion

    2. We want survival

    3. We are doing nicely with what we have, perhaps with the assistance of a striker.

    4. This year it's a case of get through as best we can with what we have, as long as we can hold it steady. The indications are that we probably can.

    5. The club hasn't much cash, there are still debts - and - crowds are not exactly pushing up the revenue are they?

I think there is a great deal of sense in what he says. Unless we start to freefall we don't need to waste cash on players we don't necessarily need.

RE: I just want to know who this cover is

Both these two are converted midfielders. We have NO true centre halves. Fact

Well actually people have been saying we need at least one of each since the close of last season

Vaughan, Carbon, Conlon. All not replaced. We have a weaker squad this season in the championship than we had last season in league one.

    Rubbish

Reid has been a centre half most of his career

Kay is the best centre half at the club

I think the 1st 11 is better than last seasons.

    It is

The problem is that we are only one month into the season and are already having to play a right back in the middle, midfielder at right back and someone who andy ritchie saw as a left winger at left back.

RE: Well actually people have been saying we need at least one of each since the close of last seaso

Conlon was replaced - we brought in Tommy Wright towards the end of the season knowing Conlon would be leaving at the end of the season.

My point was that last week, people were saying how desperately we needed a striker and now seem to be criticising him for suggesting the same thing. We probably do need another centre half, but he clearly thinks we can get by with Reid & Kay, and then with people filling in such as Togwell, Hassell, Austin, etc etc.

Now, to me thats wrong, but to suggest that the man who has taken us to the top half of the Championship since taking us over in the bottom half of League One a season and a bit ago "doesn't know what hes talking about" is a little OTT.

The goals against column shows quite clearly where our team is weakest.

Reid and Kay are only average at this level and to keep them sharp they need some competition for their place in the side. To suggest otherwise is the rantings of a lunatic. So there!

    RE: Rubbish

Reid played midfield at Northampton, Kay played midfield for us.
agreed they are both good players but , they are not natural defenders but conversions. I think both players lack the height to be commanding in the air. So we have to concentrate on winning the second ball.

Whilst I agree with most of what you just wrote

it doesnt change the fact that we are woefully short of cover at Centre half, we got found out at Norwich when Kay got sent off and again against stoke with Kay not playing.

even if you accept Kay and Reid together are OK (which some would question) as soon as we lose one through injury or suspension we are in trouble. We let Vaughan and Carbon go and havent replaced either.

We have 4 strikers so OK there - a few spare midfield players and cover for the full backs but not centre half we need one.

If you are 6ft6in tall, it is obviously easier to win headers than if you are 5ft 6in. That is unless you are a Barnsley striker or Peter Crouch.

    RE: Reid

thought we signed him as a defensive midfielder, if I am wrong I appologise. He still doesn`t win enough in the air tho`

our goals against column suggests WE NEED A DEFENDER....

We have not one but two players in the championship top scorer table... we are averaging 2 goals For a game...... we are conceding the same...therefore a ROCKET SCIENTIST worked it out fer me that WE NEED A DEFENDER.Almost the whole of oakwell will tell mr Richie WE NEED A DEFENDER..but he is seemingly the only one who cannot or will not see this blatant failing...IF we had stopped just half the goals against we would now be in the promotion zone.
