Didn’t hold anything back did he? Anyone listen to the BFCST YouTube stream? I’m a young to fully understand, is what he said harsh? Or was it justifiable about Simon Davey been a snake & Cryne not backing him & Andy when they went up

Yes and yes if that’s how he felt. Gordon Shepherd got some justifiable stick. People are more open to criticise when they’re not particularly looking for employment.

It's exactly how I remember it. There was a lot of I'll feeling when they were sacked to bring in Simon the spy

Looking at the comments by Rick and Andy and from what some players have said ( re- Dale Tonge,
Nards) about Davey, it appears that the description " snake in the grass", could possibly be well appropriate.

I’ve heard a few snake in the grass comments about Davey, was shocked about the Cryne comments, maybe it’s because nobody wants to speak bad about him? Can’t comment much on Shepard when he was chairman cause it was abit before my time

I remember him as a dull man and manager and yet he delivered back to back Championship seasons in a manner we can now only dream of.

I know the money gap has widened in more recent times but, even as a big Rick and Andy fan, I think it a little churlish to totally ignore his achievements in both league and cup.

I was told by a player at the time who lived a few doors down from me, that Davey was a snake and played a key role in Rick and Andy being sacked.

From what I am told, from more than one source, Davey is a despicable human being.

There was a very reasonable poster on here whom Davey prevented from watching training sessions. The bloke wasn't going to be passing on tactical or team information to other clubs - he just wanted to watch, because that's what he enjoyed.

That said: Liverpool, Chelsea. Never to be repeated. The greatest few weeks of watching Barnsley I think I have ever known. If we could have that again, or something close to it, I'd take him back in a heartbeat. Snake-in-the-grass, turncoat, whatever. I have learnt not to fall in love with any decent player or manager we get, because they'll soon be gone. So whilst they're here, they can be Pol Pot in a training-top but if they leave behind memories which will last forever it's all good with me.

But you can't ignore the fact that Patrick backed him massively and gave him more money than any other barnsley manager that I remember. And yet Davey still lined up hoping for a hil nil draw every week.
Didn't we play five defenders and three defensive midfielders one week?

I think those two games were completely in spite of him not because of him. History is littered with poor teams raising their game for the cameras, putting in extra effort because they're being watched and playing against a famous team and pulling off a win.

Let's be honest if it wasn't for Like Steele we would definitely have lost against Liverpool and Simon Davey didn't exactly teach him how to stop the ball going in the net.

So if he gets no credit at all for his team's outstanding successes, did he deserve the sack for getting one point in 15 and leaving us at the bottom of the table?

He never deserved the job in the first place. He was a yes man brought in to spy? Got the job because he was up Patrick's arse and was one of his henchmen like others who Patrick 'the saint' used to manipulate the fans and get what he wanted how he wanted.

As you know, I regard Patrick Cryne as a hero. The man who saved my football club. The man who invested in the club when no-one else could either find the cash, or wanted to do so. You seem fixed upon the course of rubbishing his memory. A man who has sadly left us and who cannot defend his reputation or his actions through the courts.

Can you tell me please why you have such a derogatory view of the man and the time he had in control of the club. It would be really good if you could document your views with reference to documentary evidence of actual events and also reference to the published accounts kept at Companies House.

    Thanking you in advance.

Strangely I was told "Simon the spy"

    Was subsequently "spied on"
