Santander have agreed an eight figure sponsership deal with Rory McIllory. In the middle of global economic crisis. Where quantitive easing is having to take place. To bail out the banks. To avert the crisis the banks caused. The banks that are continuing to refuse to lend. But they can spare a multi-million pound outlay to put have their name on a golfers polo shirt. Brilliant.
So they sponsor a pubeheaded Irish man to smash a ball around a field and they keep my mortgage and their variable rate at 4.24%...t0ssers
Re: Not to mention 'But I don't want to go among mad people,' said Alice. 'Oh, you can't help that,' said the cat. 'We're all mad here.'
Unfortunately the 'Masters of the Universe' not only think they are but, unfortunately, in reality, ARE. At the risk of sounding like I'm 'anti capitalism', the whole financial recovery 'plans' in the major economies and the Euro/Greece thing i.e. QE, austerity measures/hit the middle class 'soft' targets,"we're all in this together" rhetoric bit is a really about maintaining the status quo for the 'Establishment', politicians, millionaires, billionaires and bankers. Since man is essentially a competitive animal, capitalism with a mixed economy is the only system that is sustainable BUT it HAS to be regulated to control excesses and fraudulent activity. Unfortunately that is where it has failed. An example of dogma and ideology over common sense is business involvement e.g. PFI in public sector enterprise. Profit is where value is added e.g. raw materials are turned into saleable products or services are provided at a higher price than the cost (mainly labour charges in the case of services ) of providing them. Fine in the private sector but what about Public services? Take a prison or a school. How can you make a 'profit' there? Improving efficiency is not the same as profit. All it means that the taxpayer funds the prison service more than it costs and the difference (instead) of being used for other public services is siphoned off into the coffers of private companies and mates of the government. The answer is not privatisation.
The scourge of Milton Friedman We've all been enslaved to keeping our economy's 'competitive' with little or no consideration to the impact on society. Mind you, how having your name on Rory McIllroy's shirt makes you competitive god knows
They are beyond contempt and this kind of deal shows just how out of touch they are with ordinary working people. Every account holder who finds this disgusting should close their account and take their business elsewhere.
