But is it for a couple of months

Or is it what he wants if we sign him permanently?

And remember, there are players who have clauses in their contracts which say they have parity with the top earner.

Yes he has gone back but Davey says it has got nothing to do with his wages this season. Like most transfer cockups its more likely to be Agents causing the problems. WBA want us to sign him on a free in the summer but what signing on fee and wages does his agent want for next season. Is Shep/Davey prepared to pay even half what he is on now for, possibly, a second choice keeper.

I would be guessing Da Silva would be the highest paid

Can't really slag the board off for being tight, after the D-Day signings and support theyv'e given this season.

I can slag them off all day for the ticketing f*ck-up, but not for being tight. There has to be more to the Steele stuation than dosh.

suppose its the lads choice?

take a cut in wages if he wants to play for us and play at Wembley?

We're overly obsessed with wages

Especially in this situation. If we sign him in the summer surely we can negotiate his wages down to something more reasonable and in line with the rest of the squad?

But let's face up to it - £64k to sign him for the rest of the season and given we got £120k just for beating them AND I think at least 50% of the reason we beat them was down to him - then he's paid for himself already.

I dunno - I know we have to keep on a stable footing, but we mess around with things like this and it just makes us look bad.

Beating Liverpool - £120k
TV money in next round - £265k
Beating Chelsea - £300k
Gate receipts against Chelsea - £200k (ish)

Luke's contribution vs Liverpool has already earned us £885k even without any consideration at all for the money from the semi-final - and we're not even willing to spend less than 10% of MONEY WE WOULDNT HAVE HAD WITHOUT HIM on paying his wages. Unbelievable.

As for all these comments about Ben Foster - wonder how much he'd set us back a week!

Why would Steele sign for us when he knows he will be number 2 behind Muller next season?

thats not issue. We just want him on loan till end of season..I think it is fair enough we pay his wages?

like i said elsewhere

why does he have to be number 2 to Muller? What if he cemented his place in the team this season and it's up to Muller to fight for his place back.

Which one is better? Who knows.

Yes it is

Unless that means he's getting paid more than anyone else by the club, which could cause an issue.
No problem with West Brom's position on this, and really got no problem with Barnsley's.

Here's another thought though, there is a stipulation that we sign him on a free at end of season....with 1 year left on his contract at Albion, perhaps Steele is seeing his performances in the cup as putting him "in the shop window" and he has already expressed he'd like to get back in the Premier....so perhaps he (or more likely his agent) is holding off here for a move to a Premier league club,

But West Brom basically want us to take over his contract for next season as well!

If Mowbray is so confident that he could demand a fee for him, why not loan him out for the rest of the season, we pay his wages, then sell him in the summer!

Or was that line he came out with about use being given a great deal, just a load of bull?! Looks to me like they want to make sure that the 8k a week 3rd choice keeper is off the books next season, especially given the fact that parachute payments stop if they dont go up!

I wish more of our squad were worth £8k a week nt
