And i include clearing snow from the pitch so the game could be played. Personally, this act is more reminiscent in my memories of the 78/79 season when i think we had a fair whack of snow. I also had a go at selling programmes, but packed that in when a drunken Grimsby fan promised to rap a bottle of whisky round my head cos i didn't have change for a tenner - he was my second customer. Talking of programmes......... "Could programme seller hall please come to the reception office please" (arf!)
RE: Yep the very same.. nt What? Did he treat the staff like ****?....... Just wondered like?? Not wishing to connect the two, but i seem to recall the market traders's labourers' working quite hard early morning when i passed through the market on occasion. Just thought of another time too.... i was working for ASG (are they still around?) and ended up helping out doing the car park at the back of the Ponty - plus the new access point. Whilst working there a certain Mr Spinks walked by and, to cut a long story short, he provided me with 2 comps for the openiing day's game against West Ham. That big headed git Clive Allen scored after moving from Man City - i seem to recall that there was some 'hoo-har' about him moving to Barnsley but there was a rumour that he fobbed us off cos he thought us 'embarassing'. The game was the opener of whatever season (?)
RE: Yep the very same.. nt yes he did, i used to start at 4am when i was a kid, and trust me if you were late, or got a order wrong. all hell broke loose. i got offered a drivers job some years later, but the scars of when i was a kid put me off working there for life.
What a **** of a company........... Seem to remind me of a company in London by the name of Lee Marley who are in the construction business - they treat the brickies/ hoddies like a apiece of ****! They have chargehands on site who are somewhat reminiscent to the Kapos' of the concentration camps from the war. Absolute *****! Bully boy tactics etc. I know of a hod carrier from Blackpool who was working in Hackney and he was terrorised by the 'Essex boys' and so on cos he was a 'norverner'
I ran the exec bar in the East Upper for the first season it was built. Contracted from Ardsley House.
The old supporters club in the late 60's early 70's used to have their meetings under the West Stand. Pre-season meetings consisted of a game of table-tennis followed by being handed a scythe by the groundsman (even us nippers) and hacking away at the 6ft undergrowth which used to grow on the muckstack at the back of the ponty end and Kop. We didn't even get a complimentary ticket either. Tell that to the young 'uns of today and they won't believe a word of it!
me for 2 years 85-87 Voluntary on match days when I was at 6th Form College. Helped in office, got into games free, met loads of great people. Happy memories
Not quite I wrote the programme for the season 1999-2000 when we went to Wembley with Basset But technically I was employed by JW Northend as Programme Editor and we had the contract with BFC. So I suppose I didn't - even though I practically lived at the bloody club! One of the hardest jobs I've ever done - for many reasons. Claire
Last year, did my work experience with groundsmen and went back for a couple of weeks in holidays. Had a reyt time, top blokes (Y)
Me I did Played the Organ for 5 years in the little club at the corner of the ground (its gone now) suppose I was employed part time by the club.
used to work on the gates.. collecting ticket stubs on matchdays</p> once went for an informal chat about a job vacancy in the offices but was asked by a certain person if I planned on having any kids anytime soonandwas I in a steady relationship 'cos footballers are "easily distracted"</p> I didn't bother applying...</p>
