Every time I log on to see what's happening I learn that one of our better players is leaving! I don't recall starting a season with so little left over from the previous season as we will next year (as I don't think the departures have ended - Crainie next). Don't get me wrong, most of the donkeys needed to go. But now we're losing two players with the potential to be the best in the division in their respective positions. Probably necessary to reduce the wage bill, but that doesn't make it any less depressing. There was one season in the 80s that we lost our top three leading goalscorers one summer wasn't there? Wasn't it Hirst, Owen and Walsh? That was bad. It's going to be a tough season, but i just hope we don't start off as badly as last season. I don't think the club could survive spending the first couple of months in the bottom six, as people will stop going. Either way, I think we're going to need to brace ourselves for the coming season, as the club is going to need our support. Some good news from the club would be most welcome though... Someone at the club, either BM or DW said up to 20 players would be coming in. I think we've had 3 since then, unless I'm forgetting someone, but 3 have left/are leaving, which means we're breaking even. They're going to have to do some 'Arry Redknapp style wheeling and dealing in the next few weeks to get anywhere near that claim. Good job the lads at the Academy are producing decent players!
Fully agree with this post. Very excited about the youngsters getting a run, but we face another relegation if we don't have some good replacements lined up for COG, Steele & Cranie.
