http://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/ar...-receives-honour-from-the-queen.-3491905.aspx Not ashamed to admit some tears have been shed!
A fitting honour. Such a shame he won't get his day out to receive it but at least he knew he'd received the honour.
So proud to be a red. So proud that people like Norman worked so hard, and so tirelessly, so that folk like us, can still go and enjoy watching our team. So proud of Norman and everything he achieved. So proud that he accepted the honour (probably in his usual no nonsense style) and felt humbled to accept it. So proud to support a club, that supported a great man like Norman.
Massive credit as well to all the names listed that worked at making it happen. Bloody shame it takes the best part of a decade of work by good people to get the application through when it shouldn't need an application for those handing out the honours to see he's worthy of one.
Was surprised but also happy to see Sir Alex Ferguson on the list. Does anyone know where the two of them came into contact?
I know there's a quote where someone was introducing Rimmo to Sir Alex and said 'do you know who he is?' and Sir Alex replied along the lines of 'know him? He's more famous than me.' Edit: found the article. I didn't get the words right but the gist of it is there. http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/spor...as-mr-barnsley-celebrates-milestone-1-6284659
When Wigan came to Oakwell recently, I got a tap on the shoulder and as I turned there was Craig Davies. He said: "Where's Rimmo?" I had to explain he wasn't well. He was gutted. Believe me, he was Barnsley FC to so many players, especially those who've represented us. I never met the great man. I feel for the many staff at the Club who did, because I'm devastated just based on others' stories. Tomorrow we make him proud.
So very very happy for Norman, his family, the club the town and everyone so connected. Mr Heckingbottom - there's a team talk that must be made - get the reds geed up - all guns blazing first half. Let's make some noise and raise the roof for Norman and the reds.
I think it was when Sir Alex brought a team over for Eric Winstanley's testimonial. Match played 12-11-2001.
Totally 100% deserved so glad he was told and accepted... A proud day for his family and indeed Barnsley. Made my day has that.
teamtalk well if the players cannot be motivated by all this then they should not be here. I would go out feeling 10 foot tall and play my heart out for Norman if I was part of the team.
