Just read that on facebook. A rare example of a player being loved by both Liverpool and Everton fans. Ipswich as well of course. I think he was only with us for a month

The first of only two players (Peter Beardsley two decades later) to have scored for both Everton and Liverpool in a Merseyside derby.

I was there, one of the best goals I've ever seen by a Barnsley player was Glavin's in that game, assisted by Johnson with a 1-2 on the halfway line, Glavin ran from our box to score at the other end, magnificent.

According to wiki he played 4 games and scored once, obviously the one at Leeds. Would’ve been under Bobby Collins I imagine?

If it is I've never seen it.

Glav picked the ball up in our box (from a corner) almost on the goal line at the end of 6 yard area then beat a couple of players (still in our box) before running the length of the pitch, exchanged passes with Johnson, drew the keeper and slotted it in. I think we were a goal down at the time.

I was there behind the goal in the away end at the time. My memories of the day are sketchy to say the least. Were we defending our end and the goal scored at the Gelderd (home) end?

Yes, Glav picked the ball up right in front of me and my dad and we just saw him disappearing into the distance leaving a trail of white shirts....

I don’t think we will ever see his like again. Some have come close but there’ll never be another like Ronnie.
