Sad news, he was one of the first players I remember watching at Oakwell, and a quality centre forward who had previously won a First division title and scored in an FA Cup final.
Oh that’s sad news and I only mentioned him on here yesterday. He helped us win promotion from the Fourth Division. Quality player. We were lucky to have him.
I remember him in a game at Chesterfield - it may have been his first game for us. We were 2-0 down and came back to win 3-2. I believe he might have scored that day. This game was in January 1968.
This was my first season supporting Barnsleyfc. I think Ernest Dennis was then chairman and Johnny Steel. Big Eric was at centre half and to be fair he was my favourite. But Jimmy Robson was an old style centre forward. How we could do with him now.
Before we were born Paul. Still like listening to all the old stories about our players though. RIP Jimmy
Rip Jimmy , my condolences to your family and friends . Can remember us signing him and the buzzz around it at the time . Once a Red .
Staedtler, you mean?! No, W&S sit behind me in the West Stand.. we’re more Gonzo & Scooter. At least, I am..
I remember Jimmy more as an old fashioned inside left rather than as a battering ram centre forward. More of a technically gifted craftsmen. Lacking the pace of a Flying Bob Earnshaw but could spot a pass like a Hoddle / Currie.
