A comedy genius with immaculate timing and enormous stamina. Another comic said that before going to one of Ken's shows you should put your affairs in order! A very funny man. RIP Sir Ken.
Would have loved to have seen him live Only seen him on tv remember laughing so hard my sides hurt for days
RIP - A comedy genius. Rumour is that his funeral will be on Wednesday........and Thursday......and Friday........and most of Saturday!
Saw him.once at the old Keresforth Hall. Absolutely hilarious he was. A true comedy genius & another very sad loss. Tatty bye Ken......RIP
I saw him must be 55 years ago in panto. His wackiness appealed to all the kids and we loved it. RIP Doddy. You made the world happier.
Saw him at the Futurist in Scarborough in late 60s/early 70s. Diddy men, the lot. It really is so sad that an era of great entertainers is at an end, I can't think of any left. You knew exactly what to expect in his shows, no swearing, no filth, and that is what defines him and others of that epoque from some of the trash that has emerged in recent years. I mean, Rich Hall (for example)... ye gods. Anyway, so so sad. RIP.
Saw him at City Varieties 3 years ago. We left at 1.30 as we had a bus booked, but Doddy was still going strong. RIP Ken - a great comedian.
RIP Doddy! Saw him once and was squirming by the end, not because he wasn't funny (he was) but we'd been there that long I was seizing up! I think one of his opening lines was anybody whose booked a taxi to go home, you've wasted your money you could've just hitched a lift on a milk cart !
Saw him 20 odd years ago in Skeg vegas and stayed behind to meet him. He was fantastic and had a word with everyone and was happy to pose for photos, etc. He may be very famous as a comedian, but most people don't realise he had the third biggest selling single of the 60s with "Tears" (33rd best selling of all time in the UK)..
Saw the man in Blackpool Winter Gardens. I was on holiday with my parents who pulled me along. I ended up loving the show. Must have been about 1970. RIP Ken.
Thats a coincidence. I lived in Blackpool from 1960-1967 and was taken to see him at the Winter Gardens when I was about 10. Tommy Cooper was playing in the other theatre there and I saw him the same week. I remember coming out of the Ken Dodd show, no idea what the time was, but the Winter Gardens was deserted, the other theatre long closed up and the Town center walking back to the car was empty. One abiding memory was seeing someone falling off their seat and literally rolling in the aisle. Never found him funny on the TV but 'live' he was relentless and there were times when my sides were literally hurting laughing so much. Tommy Cooper came on stage and had the place in uproar without doing anything He stood there for two or three minutes making as if he was about to say something and then shrugging his shoulders -it loses something in the telling I know- but that is how he was just seemed to have the ability to make people laugh without doing a lot. RIP KD
RIP - never saw him live but he was genuinely funny when I saw him on the TV Always think of him when I see the signs to Knotty Ash if driving into Liverpool End of an era
