--------- Ritchie's XI (Note: all UK born) -------- Colgan Hassell, Kay, Reid, Austin Devaney, Howard, McPhail, Hayes Nardiello, Richards ----------------------------------------------- ----------- Davey's Best XI ---------------- Muller Hassell, Foster, Souza, Kozluk JCR, Colace, Anderson, Howard Ferenczi, Boggy ----------------------------------------------- Two key players in both those side are no longer with us i.e. Rico and Stan. Both worked didn't score as many goals as we would have liked but worked hard for the team and created chances for others. I just hope that Gray can keep fit and tunr things around.
Sorry... it was a pointless post! Proves nothin, apart from fact we have changed personel! Saw another thread and wanted to point out that their was no difference...... Under Ritchie we played attaractive football and had good work ethic..... but following promotion, those same players struggled to compete on a regular basis against better players. Ritchie was then replaced by Davey. He came and steadied the sinking ship in his first season, but failed the following season to make improvements due to inconsistent performances. Apart from the personnel I feel their is little difference between the team Davey inherited the one he has left behind. You could argue that the midfield has improved slightly but other departments have weakened perhaps. The fact is neither manager managed to assemble a team that can compete in this division. Robbo has to work with squad he has until January, lets hope he can get the best out of a bad bunch. Not all bad, but all needing to prove that they are up for the challenge and good enough to comete at this level. One player we can all argue about is KO. IMO his ability is limited and to get the best from him you must play to his strengths. If you go back and watch the famous youtube clips of him "Kayode Goal Machine" (my arse!) you will note that almost every goal he scored (17goals in all that season) he was within the 6yard box i.e. either header, or tap in. Yet for some strange reason when KO arrived at Oakwell Davey expected him to play with ball at his feet i.e. run with ball, take people on, one-on-ones etc....... NOTE: one game we played to his strengths was Chelsea at home in the FA cup, ball played into danger area and the big guy did his job!........ IMO his ability is limited, but can be effective if played the right way. Bizarrely, last season SD's team played ball on the floor when KO played..... and played balls in the air when Mifsud was selected!!!???? another player I feel suffered from the tactical inability of SD. Fingers crossed Robbo can get the best out of the current squad!
