Jones makes it an Old Trafford 'hat-trick' « Previous « PreviousNext » Next » View GalleryBy Simon MeeksBarnsley AND then there were three. Ritchie Jones arrival at Oakwell has completed the Barnsley trio of players with strong Manchester United connections. Daniel Nardiello blazed the trans-Pennine trail and has ended up a fixture in South Yorkshire. Midfielder Jones joins left back Adam Eckersley on a temporary release from Old Trafford. "I first heard about the move to Barnsley back at my club Man U. As soon I found out I was really happy, I couldn't wait to get down here really," Jones said. "I played here a lot when I was young in academy games and on the first team pitch. It's nothing new to me." Signed too late to play he was a spectator at Saturday's game at Oakwell and had a unique view of it, having been at Colchester for a month on loan earlier this season. "I thought the (Barnsley) team worked really hard and played quite well. They were very unlucky to be 3-0 down. Hopefully on Saturday we can get a win from Southampton," he reckoned. "I spent a month on loan at Colchester, I knew that they are no mugs, they put everything into every game that they play. On Saturday I think Barnsley were very unlucky. "Colchester was a good experience for me it was quite a way from home, near to London. It was good to live by myself, it makes you grow up." Stockport born Jones is at Barnsley for the rest of the season. "As a player, I'm a bit of everything really, I like to get box to box, try and cover the pitch if I can. I like to try and find the forwards. I've got all of this season and all of next left on my contract at Man U. We'll have to wait and see what happens when I get back there," he said. "There's maybe a little bit of difference in the talent side of things between the Championship and Man U. There's not a lot of difference in the pace of the game. It's a fast pace, you've got to be alert to play in this league, you've got to be strong and stand your ground." Last Updated: 14 February 2007
