Bit confused here, does Foster's signing depend on whether Kay signs?

REDS boss Andy Ritchie hopes defender Antony Kay will put pen to paper on a new contract at Oakwell in the near future.

Speaking exclusively to www.barnsleyfc.co.uk this morning, Andy said: "Hopefully Antony's agent will b back in to speak with us before the end of the week and I know that there are only a few bits to sort out before he signs. I am confident that Antony will be another part of our jigsaw.

"We are just holding back a little at the moment to see what will happen with Antony, Chris Shuker and Nick Colgan but to be fair that has always been the way this summer. We need to know just who is signing and then we will know the areas we need to strengthen.

"We are still talking with Stephen Foster and that could depend on what Antony does. If he signs then we will have to decide whether we need to strengthen that area of the team but we are still talking".

So we are not replacing carbon then? We have a full season in the championship with reid and kay. The only cover is to move hassell from full back? Are we going with a smaller squad than last year?

I hope somebody is telling porkies to keep wage demands down.

They have done ok so far Tina, has your positivity of the last 2 weeks just seeped out of you and you are back to the negativity with which you greeted Andy's reign?

But Foster has supposedly already been offered a contract

what happens if Foster says OK, is the contract offer then withdrawn from him because Kay has agrred to sign? What is going on? I thought Foster was to replace Carbon, are we now not replacing Carbon?

    Hey?

If Kay signs we might not need to strengthen that area?!

FFS! More need to strengthen it if he signs!

No my positivity hasn't gone. It was a joke, why do you think I put a[IMG] after my post.

You won't allow me to forget that I, along with many others on here wasn't positive about Ritchie's appointment.

I wasn't at the time but still supported the team home and away throughout the whole of the campaign and was forced to admit that he had come good.

It doesn't stop me fearing the future though if we don't strengthen the areas we all know need strengthening and too much doom and gloom re -money and signings being unaffordable and positivity etc etc comes out of Oakwell.

Ritchie's interview wasn't very inspiring and it felt like more doom and gloom. That's the way he is and how he presents himself at interviews. He has a habit of playing down everything. He is cautious upfront, but inside he is optomistic as he usually admits afterwards.

He's a great guy, I have met him and I like him and he has worked wonders on a shoestring.

I shall be supporting them next season home and away as I always do.

Nothing could ever change that as I am Barnsley FC through and through.

It'll be f***ing suicide next season...

    without strengthening the defence.

The words, 'long', 'hard' and 'season' are springing to mind.

foster should be signing whatever happens with kay. because he will be replacing tony vaughan. so even with foster and kay we need another defender to replace carbon.

That was the point of my post.

What the heck is going on?

Ritchie saying 1 thing and the Chairman saying another

Just why are these so called players taking so long to sign?

I wish to God they'd have sorted out these contracts last season. It's wasting precious time

"This is what we offer you if we go up, this if we don't"

    It's not rocket science.

we have to learn from this.

The club website seems to be more confused than an England defence at a corner. First Patric Cryne says that we need box office players, then Shepherd says that we have no money but we have offer Foster a contract and then Andy Ritchie seems to say that we do not need Foster if Kay resigns. Who is in charge down there.

He also said in his interview that it's going to be "very difficult" and there is "no money in the pot"

Hopefully all that is a smokescreen to keep the greedy agents at bay.

Players who are not here from start of last season:

    carbon
    vaughan
    conlon
    burns
    mcphail
    shuker (maybe)

    We have brought in:

    heckingbottom
    mcparland
    wright

So the squad is two or three players short of last season. We definately need a replacement for burns. Hopefully howard can do the mcphail job. We need another defender to replace carbon. And we need a goalscorer, because that was our problem all season. Plus we need some cover, our squad was thin on the ground, anytime we had injuries we were moving players out of position to cover.

Having said that, Im sure ritchie knows all of these things. And I have every confidence he has targets to strengthen all our weak areas. I just hope the chairman can do a good job of getting the players that ritchie wants.

it appears that ritchie either has no backbone to stand up to shepherd or he agrees with his policies of the pay structure. whatever the reason and if this happens to backfire does ritchie realise that his job could be on the line very soon in the season if we are not performing and getting the points. Ritchie should not allow himself to be set up. We could though revert back to plan B and promise to strengthen in January if things are not going our way. While some/most/all of you will see this post in a negetive light I can assure you that I am a true red blooded fan and desperate for Ritchie to succeed. My faith in shepherd is much less inclined to be positve. Unfortunately,I anticipated this and although I take no pride in saying "I told you so" it would seem my prophecy situated on page 3/4 is comming to fruition.

    You speak complete tosh.

None of what you say is based on fact, it is just your interpretation of what is happening.

Or maybe Johnson is standing off and this is Ritchie's way of saying that we are not going to any lengths to get him?
