Manager Andy Ritchie will start talks over a new deal with Barnsley chairman Gordon Shepherd over the next few days. The Tykes refused managerless South Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday permission to speak to Ritchie on Monday about replacing sacked Owls boss Paul Sturrock. "I think I'll be sitting down to discuss a new contract with the chairman in the next days or two," said Ritchie. "They (the board) have made the decision that I can't speak to Sheffield Wednesday and want to open talks with me about a new contract and I'm quite prepared to do that. "I didn't have any clause in my contract and maybe I'm a little old-fashioned, but I believe when you're in a job, you've to complete the job. "Maybe I'm a little bit behind the times and should have a clause saying I can speak to other clubs, but I don't think that's very loyal." nice to see he is loyal to the club

Relieved very relieved to see AR has said that. I have to say I was a bit worried when Wednesday approached cos no doubt they were makin a decent offer. I am a big AR fan I hope he stays a while longer.
RE: Right on Saturday, let's have shouts of I am not a wind up merchant so i must be a lovely person!(asshole)
Or both, maybe? Fifteen posts you've made so far - each one, I think, saying we should get shut of Ritchie. Not one suggesting who might replace him... I know someone has suggested the following to you but maybe I'll recap and give you some food for thought: Spackman, Parkin, Thordarson, Hart.
Oh yeah, I forgot to add... Nice one Andy Ritchie - it is nice to hear someone involved in professional football talk about loyalty for once! Agree with all the above posts about voicing our respect and gratitude over the weekend! (worship)(worship)(worship)
