i seem to recall one of the the principal reasons for ritchie being sacked was his thoughts that as a club we would never get back into the premiership .. and that this stuck in the craw of cryne particularly ! well in the light of the current situation we find ourselves in and looking back at those comments it would be hilarious if it weren't so serious .. oh the sweet irony of it all! they say in the land of the blind the one eyed man is king .. but what i would give for that one eyed man to be leading us at the moment .. but instead we seem to have a severe case of the blind leading the blind with reinforcements of £20k midfielders from lower dividisions and unemployed goal keepers seeming to be the answer to our problems .. whilst meanwhile clubs and towns of similar size like burnley can find £750k for strikers ! dear god i am dreading the prospect of us being thumped home and away again next season by the likes of donny rovers .. but it is looking more and more likely to happen with the passage of every week
think AR was been realistic about the prem times have changed so much that realistically what chance have we got of getting to the prem again? Last time was nothing short of a miracle given our budget and if our board think that can happen again on the same type of budget(very slim) then i think they need a reality check! we have been in the top flight once in a history yet a manager saying he thinks it is highly unlikely and been realistic is classed of lacking ambition, i'm sure he had that ambition but AR kept many things behind close doors and never wanted to kick up a fuss! quote after beating forrest away 2-0 last year; "we're happy to go about our business without people taking too much notice"
RE: think AR was been realistic about the prem I'd agree with that. For PC to use Ar's comments as an excuse to sack him would be laughable if it wasn't so pathetic.
but will they be next year? 1st time in this league let alone prem, once in how many years??? Same with us, top flight only once in our history, maybe we think we are a bigger club than we are!??
If we were pushing for a play-off spot at the time... ...Ritchie's comments would've been written off as mind games - but 'cos everyone was on his case he got vilified for them. I didn't want to see Ritchie go but, afterwards, I was prepared to give Davey and the board a chance to prove themselves. Maybe Ritchie didn't want to strengthen the squad but it's looking more and more likely that Ritchie just didn't want to "strengthen" the squad with the players the board were prepared to shell out for... A lot of buggering about and the net result appears to be zilch...
