KEEPER Darren Ward left Barnsley boss Andy Ritchie in the lurch last night. The ex-Notts County and Nottingham Forest man, who was last season on the books at Norwich City, did not arrive for last night's friendly at Boston United. Ritchie said: "I don't know what happened there. Darren was due to be involved. But he didn't show up. We'll have to try and find out what the position is." Ward who has trained at Oakwell on trial for the past few days appears to have blown his chances of an Oakwell contract. He was at Sheffield United yesterday. Last night Wales under-21 keeper Kyle Letheren took his place and he played for 30 minutes after Nick Colgan came off and once Barnsley had taken the lead moments earlier through Nicky Wroe. It was Letheren who conceded a 30 yard shot from Boston's Jamie Clarke. As expected Michael McIndoe made first appearance for Barnsley and on trial midfield player Colin Healy was one eight substitutions made at half-time. Ritchie has confirmed that League One side Chesterfield are interested in a move for young striker Nathan Jarman. The ex-Barnsley Academy youngster did not play at Boston last night. Barnsley will send a squad of reserves and academy lads to play Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday.
RE: How come we all knew and Ritchie didn't Yeah Ritchie messed up big time. We all know what a good goalie he is so he should have been signed without the need for a trial. Can't blame him for wanting a crack at the premiership. Amazing we all knew the situation before the manager did lol.
