http://www.ecb.co.uk/news/durham-to-host-2013-ashes-test,306891,EN.html It's a shame tradition is going out of the window. Durham is a nice smart ground but not Ashes material. The five tests should be something like......... South: Lords and Oval. Midlands: Edgbaston. North: Two of Headingley, Trent Bridge and Old Trafford. Lords are bound to get an Ashes test which leaves two spaces up for grabs. Old Trafford and Trent Bridge aren't likely to miss out again and so it doesn't look good for Headingley and Edgbaston.
Old Trafford not getting a test this year has kicked their arse into action. They are renovating and increasing the seating and facilities. Good thing too, it was becoming a shambles. If Headingley miss out maybe they will get their act into gear instead of resting on their laurels.
Yorkshire have spent quite a lot in recent years making the place better. Durham could do with making their ground so there's seats all around it.
i dare say before they awarded durhams test, they would have submitted the improvements to be done, and when it'll be finished. old trafford aint got a test of any sort until 2014 because of this
There is still two tests in 2012 unallocated. One against the West Indies and one against South Africa. I think Old Trafford will get one of those games as well as an Ashes test the following Summer. Apparently Durham are going to put up temporary stands around the ground for the Ashes. There are no plans for any permanent stands. Like you, I would like to play the Ashes games at the traditional grounds, but money talks as Cardiff proved!
Why shouldn't they play at different grounds around the country? Just a shame that Yorkshire barely play any home games anywhere but Leeds.
