    He said it in an interview on the radio, but he added that the player should be focussing on making sure that the manager saw that he wanted to be in the team, busting a gut in training and not just going through the motions, which seems to be the way Rueben is training at the moment. Being selfish in wanting to be the one that is picked and not just being happy at being a footballer.

    What he actually said was “The way football is you have to be selfish and really single-minded to be the one in the team."

    Of course it makes sense, he's saying you have to be selfish to get picked - not you have to be selfish to be a good team player.

    He'll get his chance if he wants it enough. Simple as that really. Those playing on the left yesterday didn't exactly help their own cause though. Although it could be said that few lads came out of that shambles with much credit. Dreadful display. Hopefully a one off, and summat to learn from.
