Great goal. Great pic. Great start for us - played well. https://mobile.twitter.com/tomwebster89/status/630068390258962432/photo/1
I'm still very sad that he has left the club, probably due to how young he was when he first played, but also as he's got a lot of ability that successive managers, including his new one, have failed to harness. I can understand the club getting rid though, why keep your own home developed player when you can bring in a different player, of average ability and with little desire, on loan? Maybe it not working out for Reuben at bfc is as much about him as it was the managers, but if I can give one piece of advice it would be to not play him at left back... The irony is I'm pretty sure had he not been sold in January he would have fit the mould for Lee Johnson.
I'm still annoyed he never got a run of games for us. I remember him having an excellent game for us as a LWB at home in a 2-0 win against Huddersfield & Flitcroft was quoted afterwards as saying he'd play 20-30 times that season. Then for no apparent reason he was dropped (& wasn't injured), we then went 4-4-2 with Dawson & Mellis as our wingers for the next 2 months & Flitcroft rightfully ended up getting the sack. Anyway, good luck to Reuben, bags of talent, if he can stay fit, he'll have a good career. I've never seen a kid as talented when I've been & watched the youth cup games & that includes Butterfield & Stones. Maybe he was just an early developer but it seems a waste of talent if he only ends up a squad player in the third tier.
Like last season when we moved Danny Rose on without ever giving him a chance & brought in two wasters in Lita & Hemmings instead. Them 2 weren't on loan but they might as well have been with how little they gave. RNL couldn't get a game for wasters like Shea, Mellis & McCourt during his last season here. Mental when you think how many years we had developing him.
I hope Reuben does well at Rochdale under a manager who believes in him and will nurture him. In him and Rose we gave away our future to 'invest' in wasters like Lita and Treacy. Short term thinking leading to long term decline.
He can do that... but his record to date suggests he'll do sweet FA in the next few games and then be dropped..
He is not starting for Rochdale much is he? If he is playing well , why not? He has bags of talent , but he never starts many matches , which I find a waste . Lovely lad too.
Good player. The reason behind him not getting a run of games for us is that he's made of soggy biscuits. Probably should have persevered longer with him but nevermind. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Amazingly talented laiker, if played in the right areas and played regularly with some confidence under him. He seems to be in a good place in himself right now, looks fit and he's always had a left foot like a traction engine. He's also a really nice lad. Scored in your last friendly too, didn't he? I remember your fans mocking him on your forum (much as ours did on here) and laughing at me when I said he was more talented than Matt Done. I stand by that. And I hope he can get a good run of games now. But experience suggest he won't. And that is already the best photo I've seen this season. Great tekkers from whoever took it.
Hes a player with undoubted quality and Hill being the coach / manager he is will bring that ability out of him. If he gets a run of games that will breed confidence as well as developing his match sharpness and fitness. His biggest problem was finding a position as he looked comfortable in a number of areas. Flicker and Hill both spoke about his natural awareness and understanding of the game, which belied his years. When you look at the likes of Clark, Rose and RNL then credit needs to go the academy staff again as they've produced 3 talented footballers. It would have great to see those 3 given the chance at league one level last season - in hindsight they would have done far better than the likes of Lita and Treacy and far cheaper too. Good luck to them.
Some on our forum know a good footballer when we see one. There was a moment late on where he took on a man and held onto the ball instead of passing to Henderson, straight away you could see the confidence he suddenly had in his own ability rather than giving the responsibility to someone else. At the moment his best role might be a free one, which is why he might have to wait for chances off the bench. We've loads who can do that well, including Donal McDermott now too. It's good to have so many players you can enjoy watching.
Don't read too much into the comments on here mate, win next week and we'll be feckin world beaters and top 2 certs!
Came on and played on the left of the front three yesterday. Was at the top of the midfield three v MK Dons last week in a friendly and was excellent. Confidence. All about confidence. Keep him at the level he's at now and we'll get 10-15 goals out of him. It's only one game, but I'm willing to reassess where we stand in this league already based on the level of performance yesterday. We play football, with footballers who want to play football. Not saying we're going up, but consolidating after last season shouldn't be the limit.
It usually pains me to see an ex player do well, especially if we never saw the best of him. But with RNL and Danny Rose for that matter, I hope they go on to have great careers. Sometimes a player needs a fresh start and in Rochdale hopefully RNL has that. I feel Digby may go the same way actually, which again would be a frustration. So good luck to RNL, quality player.
