Another difficult match to draw any conclusions from. Some of our weaker players shone against more limited opposition some of our quality players were anonymous. Disturbing again that for large parts of the night we play without much verve or tempo though we did pick up a little when Scotland came along. We need to start dictating the pace of games again, or at least attempting to, whatever the opposition. Last seasons home games against Watford, Brighton and Hull all showed the value of this. Against the better teams you won't be able to consistently do this but it should always be the aim. The Gouldborne experiment continues. Scott is an athletic, mobile player but lacks the vision to be an effective offensive midfield player meaning that played in a 4 with Perkins and Dawson you have effectively 3 defensive midfielders ensuring a lack of genuine creativity. The forward line looks brittle and the sooner ths is addressed the better. O'Grady needs someone at the side of him to share responsibilities. His goal scoring record indicates he won't be able to carry us on his own. The type of player we need a paced goal scorer doesn't come cheap and isn't easy to come by. Dagnall admirably though he is will hold us back in the longer term though a great squad member to have round. So early 'doors' as Big Fat Ron used to say but I think we need more fine tuning than anything radical. We also need EtUhu fit as soon as possible and in the team and Digby fit and either in the team or on the bench. Onwards and upwards.
O`Grady needs to start playing in the centre he aint a winger. Last night yet again we had 4/5 players tippy tapping ont wing trying to engineer a cross to shortie Dagnall the only man int box. Why? Good job we had O`Brien ont other side or it would have been Wigan all over again attacking wise.
