One lane is blocked, but instead of using traffic lights they've used priority signs. Good thing imho, if they'd got the signs right. Going up you are met with this sign <img src="http://www.directa.co.uk/product_images/priority-over-oncoming-traffic.jpg"> Going down you see this sign <img src="http://thumbsnap.com/s/EXLUAfmt.gif"> So both directions have priority. No chance of an accident there then. The second sign doesn't actually exist in the highway code, it's just they've hung it upside down.
For some reason that reminds me of an incident when I was walking the Pennine Way in July. I got told off by an angry farmer for not walking in single file across a field. He was somewhat embarrassed when I pointed out I was completely on my own.
They made a similar mistake close to us a few years back only neither direction had priority. The queues were horrific.
Well I can understand why nobody would want to go IN to Wellingborough but there's no shortage of good reasons to get OUT.
