Joined Neil for a chat on Tykes TV, completely agree with him when he says there is only one man for the job and the club should be doing everything in their power to get him. Paul Warne
The more I think about Paul Warne the more it makes sense. Worked with Hourihane at Derby, so that’s his assistant sorted.
After making the decision not to renew our season tickets, Paul Warne as manager would more than likely make me change my mind.
He'd need support, be able to dictate formation, tactics and have a big say on targets. If that happened I'd be ok with Warne too. He's also need to be kept for well over a season!
That would largely depend on him though. If he does well and ***** us off like Duff did, we can hardly do anything to stop it.
If they genuinely think he's a good manager ( I mean genuinely, not last option) he needs a good salary and a good contract. The coach is the most important recruit imo. Have always thought so. I'm not confident in the board though. Even with coaches I think they throw darts...
Completely agree mate. Issue will always be a half decent coach can say (especially if we're in the ****) "well I'm not joining unless I get a buyout clause of 500k" whilst on a good wage. What should the board do then? Not set on a good manager because in a years time he'll walk and then fans will get on their back? Similar to Duff, people moaned we put in a clause, but they never thought that perhaps that was the only way we could get him.
I dont know what the answer is really...first stop I suppose is simply getting a genuinely good coach through the door. One that is really wanted. Not a stop gap. Were Collins and Clarke stop-gaps? If so, just keep Hourihane on until circumstances change and timing is right. What's the point of replacing Hourihane if the next coach is not really wanted? I dunno.
Great interview and Rob makes some great points However he and I are not on the board at Oakwell, where football knowledge is not in abundance but statistics is. And you know what the say about making statics say anything.....
Paul Warne is a top bloke. Fitness fanatic but takes time to go into community. Used to go to Tesco in Rotherham for his Chicken wrap and talk with fans or anyone that stopped him for a chat. Can be a bit dower in interviews after a defeat but who isn't? Sets very high standards. Rotherham fans idolise him.
No way Warne will come here neither will any aspirational manager/head coach, just look how many allegedly turned us down before we got Clarke. why would you work under these clowns?
Yeah very astute. He's skirted around the bottom too. He might want to try his hand at a club going places.
Again, I competely agree bud. I will always personally say get the best available even if he does want a low buyout clause. I just try not to look through things from one side, context matters with it all, as frustrating as it is at times...
Loads of good managers will want to come here pal. Just watch interviews with managers about how important it is to be in work and how easy it is to lose it.
Or Clarke's. Hired him, never backed him. He was a full blown arse hole but at least he can hold his head high and chalk Barnsley F.C off his CV because he wasn't backed.
