Been told today at work by a reliable scource that Robbie Fowler is signing on a pay as you play basis
Gary Linker style esq this..... may cost a million to get one goal then! He is far too costly even if just wages for us whoever dreams up this ***** wants shooting
£50,000 a week Anfield, would be some wage cut to come here.... Bluebirds target Robbie Fowler

Jul 5 2007

by Steve Tucker, Western Mail

CARDIFF CITY have launched an audacious bid to sign Premiership superstar Robbie Fowler, the Western Mail has learned.

The Bluebirds have offered a package to the 32-year-old marksman in the last 48 hours in a bold attempt to bring him to Ninian Park.

They are today awaiting a decision from the former Liverpool and England marksman.

Fowler (pictured right) is out of contract at Anfield, where his goal-scoring exploits have made him a legend, and has issued a ‘come and get me plea’ to other clubs.

Fowler has made it clear he is looking for first-team football next season, with a talk of a move to America and Australia.

But, in what could prove the coup of the Championship close season if they pull it off, the Bluebirds have stepped in to become the first British team to try and secure Fowler’s services.

The main stumbling block will be Fowler’s wage demands, with him reportedly on £50,000 a week at Anfield.

But Cardiff chairman Peter Ridsdale and manager Dave Jones have been working hard to sell the Cardiff dream to Fowler in the hope he will take a substantial cut in salary to indulge in a Premiership promotion-push in the Welsh capital.

Ridsdale has already managed to sign Fowler once, back in 2001 during his time in charge of Leeds, when he took the striker to Elland Road in a £11m deal.

Fowler is one of three internationals the Bluebirds have been talking to in the last 48 hours, with a goalkeeper and a midfield player the other targets.

But the name of Fowler is the one that will attract most attention because he has been one of the Premiership’s top strikers since making his debut for the Reds back in 1993.

As well as two spells at Liverpool, Fowler has also played at Leeds and Manchester City.

His goal-scoring record is formidable with 216 strikes in 473 games throughout his career. Coincidently i said yesterday we should offer fowler the oppotunity to put himself in shop window should he not secure a top flight team before pre season. He could play for us, score some goals. We could never offer him a good enough contract, but if he started banging in the goals, got himself in shape, then top flight teams would probably take a punt and offer him £20k p/w plus wages. Don't think for a minute it will happen though.
With due respect ...that the article is in the Western Mail. Now along with their sister paper The South Wales Echo, they are the most prolific pieces of fiction since the Bible. The reporter there, Steve Tucker, gets his "scoops" from reading our main messageboard and takes anything, and I mean ANYTHING, as gospel. That story eminated from Robbie Fowler appearing on Sky Sports saying that no-one had been in contact with him. Someone suggested on our messageboard that he may be worth a look at and Hey Presto, banner headlines "CITY GO FOR FOWLER". It's on the bloody billboards around here as well! Another tell-tale sign is that there is, and never are, any direct quotes in a Tucker article from people who matter, it's always "a club insider" or "source". Don't believe all you read in the papers.
RE: With due respect the barnsley comical has a strangely similar policy it seems , allegedly ........
No, God no. I'd rather have a club to support in twelve months than a wheezing Fowler scoring four goals between August and May.
Difficult one Robbie Fowler of 5 years ago, without question. Robbie Fowler since then, hmmm. Not so sure although I've little doubt he would more than cut the mustard in our division. £50k/week is obviously not on the table from anyone. Or anything close for that matter. If he came to us he'd have to be around the £10k mark so as not to cause too much upset in the dressing room. No way will he drop by that amount. Couldn't see him playing alongside Chops either - IF we keep Chops that is, what with DJ and PR continuing to hawk him around.
Doesn't need the cash surely He's a multi-million pound property developer - sure 442 had his personal wealth at 28 million with his porfolio and his earnings from football
RE: Doesn't need the cash surely owns half the property on merseyside just about, has done since mid 90's
