RE: And a cheap car to travel in.

To be fair to the lad he has lost some fat since the pre-season.

His problem IMHO, is that the lad hasn't got speed off the mark. He is missing the ability to change pace quickly. He also seems to lack good anticipation which would enable him to move earlier to counter any attacks.

Fullbacks need a good turn of pace because the opponent facing them is usually one of the quicker players in the other team.

I'd heard last season he was struggling with 'off field' problems whatever they may be. He looked a bit lost last night to say the least. He wasn't on his own in that respect defensively, but his lack of mobility just exagerrated things.

Problem is, his replacement is not much faster either.

    Far, far better defender though.

    If thats him trimmed down

he must've made Billy Bunter look anorexic when he got back from his holibobs. he's pedestrian like, flat footed and as one footed as they come. I reckon Bernie Clifton could beat him over 50 yards. by a beak.

He is probably doing all he can to help the lad.
Only thing is he looked so unfit pre-season that it would take him months to get him fit.

If the lad did nothing but speed and/or speed-endurance work if would take at least 6 weeks for any improvement to become evident.
