Didn’t realise they were headlining the Saturday night of Underneath the Stars festival at Cawthorne , Paul Carrick on Friday , ace
Fairport Convention had him at their Cropredy Convention a few years ago. Went down a storm. Folk festivals are a bit different these days
I scarce dare admit it, but I saw Paul Carrack with Ace at Stoke's Victoria Ground on 17 May 1975. They were playing second support to Yes and the Sensational Alex Harvey Band. That was quite a day. Gryphon, the folk-rock combo opened the show. I remember Ace playing 'How Long' but not much else about their set, in truth. Alex Harvey was off the planet (and possibly off his head). Yes were the incarnation with Patrick Moraz on keyboards in place of Rick Wakeman. Quite a day! As far as Robert Plant goes, the OP fair blew my mind that he should be playing at Cawthorne. But then I recalled that I haven't really gone overboard about anything he's done for the last 40 years! Still, those first four or five Led Zep albums were absolutely epochal. The maturity of voice that Plant exhibited on the first two albums in particular, when he was only 20/21 was something else. Totally subjective, of course, but I've long held to the view that Led Zeppelin II is the greatest rock album of all time. With day tickets for Saturday apparently sold out I can manage without parting with (2 x) £147.50 for a weekend ticket. But it still sends a shiver that a legend will be amongst us!
