....I know the majority of people on here think Robins would be a good move, but is the truth really that after the dislike people took to Davey, Paul Hart would be welcome back with open arms!!! Even John Pearson would prove more popular than Davey at the moment...

...all I'm saying is stop and think what happened the last time we appointed a manager from a league 2 club ie Rochdale - It's one thing getting a load of average young lads to gel on a low budget - another trying to manage a squad of players with ego's and foreign internationals (or both!!)

...Which is why I say, for me, this one's got Steve Parkin written all over it..

Rant over! Now go discuss.... :D

They both managed Second Division clubs. There the similarity ends. Don't see how that means Robins will do as badly as Parkin did. I'm sure there will have been plenty of managers over the years, who have cut their teeth in Division 2, and have gone on to be successful.

Surley its better than appointing your academy coach, the board have obviously thought about a replacement over the last few weeks.
I don't think they have rushed into appointing Robins so I can't see the link to Parkin.

    Who actually appointed Parkin?

Don't get me wrong I accept that managers ply their trade in the lower leagues then go on to bigger things hopefully - what I'm not sure of is this lottery where BFC seem to be the club that offer these managers the opportunity, rather than go for a bit of experience - If you look at our appointments over the last 20 years it seems like we're prone to taking a 'punt' on someone rather than go for a proven track record. We got lucky with Wilson to be fair but the only time I've felt someone had the team by the scruff of the neck since, was Bassett - experienced, decent CV, contacts etc..
Just time we had an older head for me thats all instead of another 'got potential'.

Not sure - Probably John Dennis I guess - Got to say I'm stunned nobody can see the similarity between Robins & Parkin - Both young and doing well with sod all money in lower leagues at cash strapped clubs and had a couple of years at it - Neither have even had time yet for things to go wrong - Trouble was we took Parkin while he was the talk of the town before anyone had chance to see how he performed when things went against him.

It's okay betting on a boxer that wins his first 4 pro fights to lift a title, but personally I'd rather bet on one thats been knocked down a few times and got back up to go on and win.

I'm really not sure why people aren't seeing this flaw in our managerial appointments.

Disagree... never heard of Steve Parkin when he was appointed... & he came from mid-table Rochdale

Mark Robins played at the highest level for both Man Utd and Norwich City..... I always admired him as a player and where ever he played he got goals and won over the fans. As a manager he hasn't had it easy, having little or no budget to work with initially, two takeovers, administration, players not being paid and points deductions. But he took on the challenge, and suprised everyone with both performances and results. When money became available, he has been shrude in the transfer market and has put together a very strong squad for that division.

Note: looking at the live league table on Skysports centre Rotherham are currently unbeaten in the league and sitting pretty at the top of L2 with a positive goal difference (+6).

Steve Parkin, Steve who? or at leats thats what I thought when he was appointed apparently he was tipped for big things having made Rochdale a top half fourth division side.... come on! no comparison, following his sacking ended up back at Rochdale........... no comparison, with Robins anyway. A better comparison would be with SD. As I hadn't heard of him when he was appointed.

If Robins is appointed lets get behind him, IMO he is determined young manager who deserves a chance. He has proven he can work with small budget, motivate players, develop youngsters, instill players with a winning mentality, he has a good eye for a striker (finally!!) and his team play attractive ATTACKING football and score plenty of goals.

The difference hopefully will be Robins links in the game that hopefully help us with future tranfers/loan deals, Parkins links in the game must have been
poor some of his signing were dreadful obviously had no knowlegde of players at a higher level.
