Gillingham have signed midfielder Craig Rocastle on a month's loan from League One rivals Port Vale, with a view to a permanent move.

"The opportunity arose, the manager (Mark Stimson) is someone I know from non-league and it's closer to home," the 26-year-old told BBC Radio Kent.

Rocastle moved to Vale Park last summer from Oldham, and has made 25 league and cup appearances for Vale.

He began his career at Kingstonian before having a spell with Chelsea.

Despite failing to play a first-team game for the Blues, he has also played for Barnsley, Lincoln, Hibernian, Sheffield Wednesday and Yeovil.

That's ten clubs. Makes you wonder what would have happened if he'd been Craig Smith or Jones? And nearer home too. Has he been travelling from Kingston to all these clubs?
