Fair enough, the challenge was late, he didn't get the ball and his foot was a little high, but no way was that a straight red card. Ronaldo hits the deck writhing in agony, pained expression on his face and the ref steams in with an immediate red card response. Two seconds later, Ronaldo is running at the full back again, right as rain. Will nobody ever clamp down on his pathetic antics?
Got to disagree, a tackle above the knee is a red card in my book, regardless of how a player reacts.
To be honest Just having seen the re-runs after the match, it looks worse now than it did then. Foot was much higher than I saw. Still think that Ronaldo made a meal of it - but the intent was there in the defenders mind to hurt the opponent, the fact that he didn't succeed in doing so is neither here nor there. But like the Morgan challenge - the intent was pure red card - could have broke his knee. I hate Ronaldo, but I was wrong in my initial post - that was a red card challenge. Imagine what the F.A. would have done if Christiano Ronaldo had his skull fractured by Morgan!!
RE: It was a poor challenge Looking at it again - I agree with the fact that the challenge was poor - but I just don't think Ronaldo can help himself. He always makes a meal of it and roles around. I've never ever experienced such pain that I'm been forced to roll back and forwards convulsively from it.
You've not had a kidney stone, then Had one of them last week and it certainly makes you rock back and forth. Anyway, I initially thought Ronaldo was making a meal of it, but after seeing the pics of the marks on his leg, I'm not too sure he was.
RE: Ronaldo needs protection top quality player who lights up the english game. at aston villa on saturday, they kicked lumps out of him from the first minute, fair tackles most of them, but with many follow throughs with elbows, arms, trailing legs etc. tonight, that tackle on him was appalling, he went down for the foul and the ref sent the player off. simple. brilliant player, wish he was english.
RE: Ronaldo needs protection He's a great player - amazing talent - just totally unethical. Diver, throws himself around, plays acts to get people sent off. Amazing how everyone has forgotten that wink he gave to Scolari when he got Rooney sent off. I'm in awe of his ability with the ball and the things he can do - but I'm always going to be disgusted with his attitude towards the game.
what about rooney then? at least two dives tonight, one for a penalty which was appallling. he should have been carded at the least. did you see that one?? how about bambi on ice odejayi last night. if anyone went within the 5 yard exclusion zone, he fell over, laughable. conned more free kicks than ive ever seen. but that would be ok cos he plays for tarn.
RE: what about rooney then? Don't put words in my mouth mate. I didn't say anything about Rooney or Odejayi. In terms of comparing Rooney and Ronaldo, I think we both know who the more robust player is - that being said players diving for penalties is wrong (and yes Rooney should have got a yellow for it). As for Odejayi last night - I think we saw different games because I thought he stood his ground very well, used his physical presence to good effect and no, I wouldn't rate him as a diver at all.
RE: what about rooney then? odejayi not a diver? he has the physical presence of the invisible man. i thought he'd got ten pint legs on at one stage last night. send me a pair of your rose tinted specs that you clearly put on with the rest on here who rate odejayi as anything other than a non league player. look at his goal to game ratio.........that is what makes and breaks strikers. get shut.
Diving is an irritation; deliberately rash and dangerous tackling is a cancer. Can't remember who said it, but its true
Ronaldo did not get anyone sent off, it was a red card, high challenge, above the knee, could have broke his leg. Had that been on a reds player, what would you have thought about it then?
I wish people would look at the facts rather than just spouting off anti Man u / Ronaldo drivel.
