Both now scored 48 goals but .. Rooney Caps 105 Lineker Caps 80 World cup finals games Rooney 11 caps 1 goal Lineker 12 caps 10 goals Hmm know which I think was really the world class player
And therein lies the problem with stats. Rooney scores a lot of goals in meaningless friendlies against opposition that would struggle to beat Barnsley.
Whilst I agree in principle, I think some of the flack Rooney takes is unwarranted. Yes his record isn't as good as Linekars on paper, but he's not half as bad as some make out. Missed some glorious chances tonight before he scored mind. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Sadly we have not produced enough international quality strikers in recent years and Rooney has had little competion for his place... Where as Lineker was always being challenged for starting place
If Rooney had Beardsley or Gascoigne playing with him he might have scored more ? He sometimes ends up doing the jobs of those 2 - Lineker was an (exceptional) out and out striker.
Two very different players, Linaker was more skilful, Rooney more basic, but both score goals, a purist would rate Linaker better.
Got to disagree there. I think Rooney is a far more rounded footballer. Better technically, more powerful, better vision and passing range. Lineker was a better finisher, no question and probably edges it on pace. It'd be tough to choose between them but very difficult not to go for Lineker because he delivered at the highest level, tournament football. I do think Rooney is a more gifted footballer though, he just hasn't quite fulfilled his potential sadly.
Wayne Rooney is possibly the most overrated player ive ever known. Personally I wouldnt have him in the team when everybody is available. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
When has he ever scored against teams of that ilk when it really mattered? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
