if you look at the refs reaction - he wasn't going to book him for the tackling

Exactly what i've been saying. All morning on Sky Sports News its as though he was sent off for an alleged stamp on Carvalho, but to me its quite obvious he wasnt going to react to the initial foul, but only when he pushed Ronaldo did the card come out.

Ronaldo the diving ****. Getting your own club-mate sent off is disgusting. Football really can be **** nowadays.

I hope Fifa investigate Maniche's dive

When he went down clutching his face, far worse than anything Rooney did in that game

absolutely - lets home rooney learns like beckham did. he likes to play with a bit , well a lot of fire in his belly. but - he should just have walked away. you can't raise your arms.

thats not to justify the red card - it was a very poor decision from another weak referee. the refs have been extremely poor this tournament. petits tackle in the first half was dismal - it could have caused bad injury, yet it only warrants a yellow. ronaldo runs in to provoke rooney and it really is an innocuous push back from rooney. the ref wanted to make a name for himself and he did.

really gutted because i genuinely believed this team had what it takes to become champions of the world and portugal were there for the taking.

I still think that the referee was just waiting for the situation to calm down a bit, before showing the red card. I must see the video replay again though, I'm sure you've all seen it a hundred times already (I've only seen it three times) so you probably know better.

But also BBC, The Sun (someone posted a link here yesterday, I don't read that crap :pff ), and some Finnish news services keep saying that the red card was for the kick in the nuts though.

I wonder if the referee is going to comment the incident in any way?

FIFA have admitted that they haven't got a clue what it was for

    Sven in the press conference

Said he went in to see the ref after the game and the ref said "it was for a kick between, well I think you know where"

although looking at the replays it didn't look like that's why he red carded, unless that was in his mind to do that but was just waiting to see how the player was but then when Rooney did the push he then decided he had to take immediate action to prevent the situation getting worse.
