Gerrard and Perkins were tired because they'd played too much football. Bloody hell - who'd want to be a fitness coach.
To be at peak fitness. So not be rusty where they've not done enough or jaded where they've done too much. The bit in the middle.
Agreed. Not sure Rooney should've been there - only playing half an hour competitive (albeit in a friendly) football was a risk. Didn't pay off.
Rooney was never going to be at peak fitness, hasn't played for a month or more. As for Gerrard and Parker, when the ONLY central alternative is Henderson, it's little wonder they're tired. They basically had to play 90 mins every match for us to be competitive in central midfield. The way to counter it all of course is to keep the ball for periods longer than 5 seconds.
Chuff me. They played on the 11th, then they didn't play again until the 15th, then the 19th and finally on the 24th. It's hardly a punishing schedule. If they can't cope with that then there really is summat wrong.
Oh granted, but when the team doesn't retain the ball, they're constantly chasing around like an attack versus defence training session. Sooner or later one or the other was going to either tire or pick up a knock, both being over 30 and Pakrer allegedly not fully fit anyway. That's when we need to be able to look at the bench and see a bit of depth. But with Wilshere, lampard and barry all sidelined... I guess Carrick would have been an option.
Bang on. Our style of play dictates that our players will tire quicker and be at risk of fatigue/injuries.
