One of the most overrated, and overpaid, players of all time.

Who's the 10 foot pillock? Welbeck? He's been terrific for England.

Fair enough. Obviously I disagree and running the risk of getting all 'Hemsy' on you, I think Hodgson disagrees as well. Suspect he will start most games. He's a good out ball, is flexible with regards to his position, holds it well, has some ability and some pace. Doesn't score enough goals though which admittedly a huge problem for a centre forward.

If choose Rooney and Sturridge over him but probably noone else. But he'll probably pick all three.

It's the strength of opinion at this time of the evening that always amuses me. Obviously, I know you're joking but I amazes me that a footballer playing for a team with no affiliation to Barnsley attracts such ire. Particularly when the only time we actually have anything riding on him as such, (e.g. In an England shirt) he's been pretty good.

Also, he's about as inoffensive a footballer as you're gonna get. If you'd said Ferdinand was a pillock I'd probably have more sympathy.

I suppose as he's played as a wide midfield link man you could make a case for the likes of lalana and sterling. But in terms of outright centre forwards...erm, Lambert and Crouch? Not for me. We're not exactly blessed are we?

Believe it or not but I am pretty ambiguous where Man Utd and their players are concerned in fact I feel this way about the premier league in general (except Liverpool whom I despise). I saw the opportunity to use the joke and I took it, the player could have been almost any one of hundreds of premier league players, their club wouldn't really have mattered.

When I've seen him play at club level, I completely agree with you. He looks ordinary at best. However, last few competitive England games I thought he did really well. Dunno what that says when you look good in the national side but not in your club side.

Wayne Rooney is probably the most talented footballer to come out of England in the last 10 years. He'd walk into any football team in the world in my honest opinion. Fair enough, he's not worth 300k a week, but nobody is - it's an obscene amount of money, but he's a brilliant footballer, and if you disagree with that, truly disagree, then it's only out of personal bias either towards him, or his club that you do.

Manchester United have had an awful season, and the players that Moyes has inherited - Cleverly, Buttner, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Nani etc are either A) Not up the task and B) Past it. He's not helped himself with signing the likes of Fellaini, and at present, these players all conspire to make this Manchester United team one of the most average I've seen for a long, long time. Even with Rooney, as World Class as he is, he can't do it alone. No one can, unless you've got the players around you to influence you and the game.

Approximately a goal every other game for England and Manchester United, not even mentioning his assists and off the ball value. He is quality and if you don't like him as a person, if you have any modicum of footballing sense, you have to hold your hands up and admit that he's one of the best in the game.

Off the top of my head (bearing in mind I just woke up and not given it much thought)

Daniel Sturridge, Jermain Defoe, Rickie Lambert, Peter Crouch, Jay Rodriguez,

Not everyones cup of tea I know but I'd use all the above before him.

He's a good player, no more no less, the same as hundreds of other players the world over. One of the best in the world? Nowhere near. That's based on what I've seen of him as a player, nowt to do with personal dislike.

Really? Defoe, Lambert, Crouch and Rodriguez over Rooney? I'm sorry, but that's just absolute tosh. Even Sturridge, who's having a fantastic season is nowhere near as good as Rooney, but then again he's only on 130k a week so he's not going to be is he?
