he's got O Grady, Harewood and maybe Foster to aim at. Everyone else is under 5 foot 9. Seems a strange signing for us at this juncture since we are a team built around keeping the ball on the deck.

I'm not sure thats our main reason for signing him.

Fecking hell what a thing to look forward to, neck ache. Anything in our half will be launched into the 6 yard box Wimbledon 1980's style.

    36 year old, toss signing.

    Its his main attribute though

I dont think he's been signed to bomb up and down the right flank like an enthusiastic 18 year old. Either O Grady is going to dominate defences in the air or we're looking to pick up the ball after the opposition have headed it clear.

Smacks of a panic signing to me.

Don't think we have purely signed him for his throws.

Flicker obviously feels we need more experience in the side. He's made a good start, so why don't we wait & see how he gets on?

Its not like we can say "Folk a writing him off before he's even pulled on a shirt" we know exactly what he's about and as S.M states he ain't exactly going to be bombing up and down the wing, in The Don's words "He's been brought in to cover for Stones" He's here to launch a ball over 50 yards onto O'Grady's head. Cracking football.

I thought we were a footballing team?

I feel like everyone's losing the plot

Rory Delap has played a ridiculous amount of top flight games for two or three different clubs. He isn't just a long throw specialist, he can play football a bit too!

I don't think you'll see 40 yard throws throughout the game, but what a useful resource to have if you're a goal down or level with ten minutes to go when battling for points? As good as a corner, and could prove really useful. You don't need to be 6ft+, just the thought of the ball being launched in to the box will cause the opposition to get nervous.

We need to be a results team all the way up to the end of the season, how the performances are dont really enter into it at this time for me it has to be points on the board by any means.

We can faff about with Golly/? putting in one cross out of 4 possible opportunities or we can launch it in with Delap. The more we get the ball in the box the more chance of scoring something we aint done too well this season.

Call it another option , plan b whatever Flicker isn`t letting the grass grow under his feet.

Agree. Experience is massive. Scotland, Harewood, Foster, Hassell, Steele & Delap will be massively important.

Re: I feel like everyone's losing the plot

dont get me wrong, Im interested to see what he brings to the team, but on the face of it he's hardly a like for like replacement for Stones, and just as we've started to put a run together, it looks like we have to adapt to what we've got available again, which will be a shame. As for the long throw, it worked for Stoke so well cos they were a team of giants, we are exactly the opposite and I'd hate to see us hurling the ball in hope at the oppositions box just cos we can.

Re: I feel like everyone's losing the plot

I might be proved wrong, but he's an intelligent footballer and you need to be intelligent to play the wing back role (assuming that's where he slots in). He won't play like Stones did, at 36 that can't be expected, but he'll offer something different.

If we're 1-0 down with ten minutes to go, I don't care how we get the ball in the box as long as we do. How many times was Keef slated for having a team that passed it around at the back with no urgency? No, we're not a team of giants, but I don't believe we'll be using the Delap throw throughout the 90 minutes, just when we need to, and for that you don't need a team of giants - it only takes on perfectly timed jump or flick on to cause chaos in the opposition box.

Cranie is 6ft, Kennedy is 5'11", Etuhu is 6ft and Danny Rose can jump 9ft.
There's plenty of height to go with Harewood, O'Grady and Foster.

I wouldn't mind seeing his long throws if its 20 yards from the by line. It's just like having more corners. It wasn't long ago we were complaining we didn't get the ball into the box enough, now we'll have no problem.

I'd be surprised if Delap slots in at wing back. I know he's got the stamina but I think he's a replacement for Dawson, not Stones. I think Wiseman will be the first choice now at RWB.
