Definatly one that got away although to be fair some of the fans were so negative to him I'll bet he was glad to get the chance to leave
Not sure that having ex-players signing for Forest means "they got away" these days with Forest's current position
They are sat in front of me in the Ponte End. Strangely they are big fans of Conlon??
Some people eh!

Good point They are no longer a big club. Big as far as this league goes, but thats it now.
Having said that, Rory should never have been allowed to leave. At the time, probably the most in-form player at the club. The boo-boys had their way again. Good on him, I say. He could go on to bigger and better things - just a shame it weren't with us.

What would you call it then? The boo boys did get their way. They wanted a player out - and out he went. Im not saying thats is the reason why he went, because like you say, we were in admin. But they did get what they wanted.
The reason we sold him was that Gudjon didn't think he was or would ever be good enough. I liked Gudjon a lot and I was appalled when we sacked him, but selling Rory was a very poor decision as far as I was concerned. You don't spend years and bucket loads of money training a player only to sell him at the first opportunity when he finally appears to be repaying that investment. It appeared a daft decision then, even more so now. Having said all that, there weren't too many complaining at the time.
RE: What would you call it then? yep true, he got a lot of stick, but he wasn't sold because he was booed
Im glad there are other people that think it was a terrible decision too. Especially at a time when he was playing out of his skin. At the time he was probably the most important player in the team - up front on his own doing loads of donkey work. Yet there were still people that gave him no credit.

I think it was more... that Swindon offered 60k. I can't recall Gudjon saying he was not good enough...
when asked why he was sold Gudjon said - If I thought he was good enough I wouldn't have sold him. It was nowt to do with the money, Gudjon just didn't rate him. Ridsdale was in charge by this time and soon after we spent money on Boulding and Shuker.
Nor me But why did he persist playing him on his own up front?
I do trust what Jay said is correct though.

The only other striker was Rankin I don't think Gudjon rated him much either. And it wasn't particularly that he saw Rory as a star player in that position, it's just that he devised a system with one up front and the only player who could do that was Rory. To be fair to Gudjon, that system worked. I do know he said that about Rory as he said it to me when I asked him about the sale.
Exactly never forgive Gudjon for that. Worked under a real budget, and did really well. But getting shut of Rory to be able to afford Boulding - bad move.
