Rory has now been appointed player-coach at Truro City. http://www.trurocityfc.net/news/truro-city-announces-new-manager-and-coach-1626988.html Certainly a beautiful part of the country.
Saw this a couple of days ago. Bit of a strange one IMO, Steve Tully had done a good job there getting them to the playoffs although they fell well short against Maidstone. The club were riding high a few years ago( 2 or 3) and then had serious financial difficulties so lost points and demoted. Have fought back well to conference south and challenged well last season, higher placing in the league than they'd previously managed. The new manger they appointed, Lee Hodges, should never have been let go in his previous spell with the club which coincided with the financial troubles. They've made a couple of interesting signings the last couple of weeks as well picking up River Allen and Andrew Neil from Bodmin. Neil scored 60 goals last season so if he can make the jump it could be interesting. Allen has a good reputation in centre mid and has a bit of pedigree with PLymouth( i think). Problem Truro have and have had over the previous seasons is that Cornwall is a rugby county simple as that. If the new Cornwall stadium is ever built (they keep saying its happening) then Rugby will be the primary draw (Cornwall Pirates are pushing for it/ need it to have any chance of premier). Turn outs aren't brilliant and the players need paying. they have lost good players in the past (Martin Gritton was one, ex Forest) as they were offered a job away from the county and couldn't turn it down. All football grounds in Cornwall are fairly poor, think Wosbrough Bridge (as it was in the 90's not seen it for a few years so may be doing them a disservice) For a team to progress up the football league they need a decent ground, to get a decent ground they need the money or to ground share - no nearby teams to ground share with in Cornwall until the stadium is built so you have to go to Devon, thats not too popular and over 1 hours drive from Truro depending on which club you look at (Torquay has been mention over the last year). It will be interesting to see what happens, I think Rory could do a job for them, Barry Hayles was playing there a couple of years back and his experience helped, but it will be interesting to see how he fits in with existing players and the new signings.
Great move for him. I reckon his ice cream business would be more lucrative in a place like Truro. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Where do they stand regarding this new stadium? It's been on the cards for years but I think they're finally moving forward?
I lived in a caravan on the club carpark for 3 months in 1990 whilst I was putting an optical fibre cable in from st Austell to the earth station at goonhilly down. we became members of the club and the committee let us use the officials shower when we'd finished work then it was into the clubhouse for a few pints ( tetleys believe it or not) and watch italia 90 on the big screen. a fantastic and friendly club, pity some bas***d got hold of my home number and grassed me and one of the barmaids up to my (now ex) wife hehehe
It seems to come and go regarding news. You'll get loads of info in a short space of time and then it'll all go quiet. I think it's definitely going to happen although exactly when may be a slightly harder question. There was talk of Truro ground sharing with Torquay next season although that's no longer happening and I've just found an article from April this year about the stadium but on a quick glance it never mentions the football just Rugby, so whether Truro have backed away from it, or they'll only commit once ground has been broken i'm not sure. http://www.westbriton.co.uk/look-retail-park-fund-Stadium-Cornwall/story-29095026-detail/story.html
