Anyone know what they are doing at the Rose and Crown at Darton? I am hoping its a refurb rather than another pub closing down.

It's a refurb, expected to take 4-6 weeks. Owners, Punch Taverns look to be investing a bit and advertising the lease. Looks like it's up for £42K with incoming of £18,350 (Does this mean it's being subsidised by Punch Taverns ?).

Duno whether Mick handed the lease back or just didn't renew. It certainly went downhill over last few years after his wife Christine passed away. Don't think his heart was in it. Some real low lifes frequenting the place recently. Also didn't help with Liberal Club across road selling ale at around £2 a pint.

Was being advertised back in March http://property.morningadvertiser.co.uk/Property/21213/S Yorkshire Barnsley - Tenancy.html

Hopefully, they'll do the same as whats happened to The Royal at Barugh or Talbot in Mapplewell. About time we had a decent boozer in Darton.

The Royal is nice inside and has a good selection of ales. Thought that the food wasn't that good a value though.
