Rotherham United have apologised to visiting Barnsley fans for a ticket blunder last Saturday, reports the Advertiser. Around five hundred fans were left queueing just before kick-off as the club had not printed enough tickets. The clubs chief operating officer, Paul Douglas, explained, 'there was one less member of staff in the ticket office than there should have been and one of our ticket printing machines broke down, leaving us with an extra problem. 'Both issues have been addressed and hopefully this situation won't happen again.' The Police eventually ordered the gatemen to let the Barnsley fans in for cash to ease the congestion on Millmoor Lane. 'We apologise for any inconvenience,' says Mr Douglas. (clap)
That blows Waynes theory out of the window 500 outside the ground before kick off According to Wayne there were a total of 500 from TARN there that day Which means of course - when the game kicked off there were no TARN fans in the ground (chinny) Or was he pist agieean (doh)
there was never 500 queuing at kick off Around kick off time a load of extra barnsley fans did come in but it wasn't 500, more like around 50, a few of us joked that an extra bus had pulled up. Rotherham's away stand holds around 2,000. Around half of the stand was empty from what I could tell (8 seats to my right all empty, nobody in the 10 to 15 seats in front of me, nobody behind me etc) There can't have been more than a thousand there.
hehe I was in that queue, looked about 200 to me.

There probably was about 800 there altogether

Strange innit? Rotherham officials on the gate said it was a requirement of the "authorities" to have a ticket. There weren't any tickets given out at Oakwell vs Wigan. Shame there were only 2000 in total at the Wigan game!!!
I got there at 2.55... And there were 300-400 there MINIMUM in the queue, so I don't know where you were...
Im sure they wouldnt do it and strike me down for even thinking it But to not print enough tickets and then have hundreds of fans paying unaccounted for cash through the turnstiles. Bad or good planning?
So how do you know how many were queuing? (doh) I was there in time, didn't anticipate crowd congestion for a friendly! I've been late for one game in my life - when my parents drove to Barnsley from Shropshire on a Friday night - 7-1 v Hudds, maybe I should be late more often Not a bad record though I must say.
I was talking about how many people walked into the stand around kick off time. Personally i'd find it very difficult to judge how many people were queuing in such a tight space as millmoor lane if i was stood in the middle of them, but i think i'd have a better chance of judging the number if i watched from above when they opened the gate at the side of the stand to let them in. Maybe there was more like the 200 or so that you say but there was never 500 extra's turn up at kick off. the stand holds 2000, it had a LOT of empty seats, i find it hard to believe that only one in 4 were empty. and by the way, the reccomended time to arrive at a ground is 30 minutes before kick off for safety reasons. 5 to 3 is pretty late
Well... I'd happily wager if there's any proof that there were considerably more than 200 people in that queue. Did you sit and watch people coming in to the ground rather than the match? Anyway, why on earth are we arguing about this?! I'll leave it by saying that Rotherham said there were about 500... they're the ones who took the money and therefore know the attendance.
Say it again.............there were 2840 people at that game Were there 1200 Rotherham fans........??? In my opinion...........maybe there abouts So if the rest of um wern't TARN fans.......who the hell were they ??? I would guess at about 1700 from TARN The stand where we were holds about 2100 So thats about 400 empty seats which were about right Note. After the kick off TARN fans were coming in at both ends of that stand I were sat on the left of that stand looking onto the pitch and there were loads pouring in thro a gate at the back of me
RE: Say it again.............there were 2840 people at that game I would have to agree with all that. Definitely 1500 there. After kick off there were a good few hundred came into the stand.
