According to this: http://footballleagueworld.co.uk/3-...nited-are-a-bigger-club-compared-to-barnsley/ I can't stop laughing at the three reasons why. I don't normally get involved in willy waving but this is hilarious. Rovrum. ******* hell.
This is there 2nd season in a higher tier than us for as long as I can remember this has got to be a wind up take decent numbers away though over past two seasons.
Their fan base will shrink by 50% if they drop this time. I always liken them to Donny in that they will disappear as fast as they appeared. Remember back in the late 70s and early 80s, our average crowds use to dwarf theirs when both teams were doing equally well. No axe to grind with the them though, they went through years of crap, with moving to Sheffield and the former Chairman Booth holding them to ransom etc. They have a nice stadium in the centre of town as well.
Reads like an AS level media studies essay that was google translated to German then translated back by someone who got a D in German GCSE.
I edited that piece, his number 4 was there was more letters in Rotherham. I told him to go and **** himself, which he did, in front of his mum, which I thought was rather odd.
Most Rotherham fans are decent types who would concede that Barnsley are the bigger club. Bigger ground, higher attendances, FA Cup win and another FA Cup final runners-up, season in the top division and much more time spent in the second tier. Against that Rotherham have got one League Cup runners-up spot.
Never really understood this "club-size" debate, there's no consistent formula to determine it. The problem with a lot of these blogging types is they are young folk who only look at stats like final league position over the course of several seasons - if it was that simple our club wouldn't exist! It's a lot more than that, it's the general experience of games, big wins over rivals, decent cup runs and such. This type of stuff is never reflected in the big picture because at the end of the day it's 3 points or an inevitable cup exit, but enjoying these moments is what football is all about. We experience some great highs as Barnsley fans because like a lot of clubs we don't pull up any trees over the course of the season but once in a while a truly special game happens and it makes the sh*t games where you've been bored or freezing your tits off or both seem worth it. Some of our near neighbours have a bigger fan base but are they really finding the experience of following their club any better than us when because they might have done OK a generation ago and as a result can pull in 25,000+ fans every week they should be doing much more? Going to another level, the Manchester clubs - win and it's job done because they were expected to win, lose and it's the end of the world, where's the real enjoyment in that? Going back to that "article", absolutely ridiculous arguments: 1. The capacity of a stadium is normally dictated by the potential to actually fill it, would Rotherham ever get more than 20,000 even in a cup tie against a top 4 side? 2. How do they know their players are better than ours? I do find it odd that Aidy White can't get in their team, but they are struggling like f*ck in the Championship, after a lot of transition we have looked very comfortable in this league for a good three months now, I think it would take a test series of games to decide who has the better players/team overall, they certainly don't clearly have a better squad. 3. Recent success? Again, goes back to what I said before, this has been judged purely on final league positions - we sustained several years of Championship status (something Rotherham will never be able to do) and we actually threatened the top end of the league for a while before we were unlucky enough to lose three of our best players - with better luck we could have even crept into the play-offs that year, something Rotherham will never do.
Wind up. Has to be. I found it highly amusing and wasn't even remotely offended as it was clearly rubbish. The internal logic of 'it's got a better atmosphere because it's smaller and we don't know the Barnsley average attendance' almost makes sense.
Ha ha what a load of ********, you lot have & always will be bigger than them (& us). Praying that they come down this season & we stay up, always look forward to playing you lot but it's nothing compared to them ****ers.
I've always had a soft spot for you lot. Was at the game where Richardson's coffin was dragged along Carr House Road and shed a bit of a tear when I saw your last league game before you went down to non league. I honestly thought that was the end of you as a league club I thought he had destroyed you forever with his criminal mismanagement. When you came back rejuvenated I thought it was a fantastic metamorphosis and a credit to all those involved. It showed that there is stuff that transcends every day rivalry and was a lesson to all clubs who get shafted that they can rebuild and move forward. I went with you lot to Cardiff for your JPT final and it genuinely felt like a rebirth. I can never wish you I'll after the ups and downs you've been through over the last 30 years. I generally look for your results and hope you do well. I'd just like to see us play well against you for bloody once. Anyhow good look for the rest of the season. As for Rotherham who cares? Onwards and upwards.
Come on mate, come & join the Rovers revolution, your almost there!! For what it's worth although it's nice to beat you, out of all the local sides your the one I don't mind, remember watching you v Oldham just before you got promoted to the premier league , proper buzz around the place.
I think the majority of Barnsley fans supported you in the Play Off Final against L**ds all those years ago to be fair.
