Aye, they built the old fire hydrants that were sent to NY in a factory on that site years ago.

That was the original name for the area in which it is built, way before New York, USA.

I have a pub in Rotherham that is pretty good for the match. Located on the way from Tinsley viaduct to the ground, large car park, reasonable prices for drinks and food, decent place all round.

Gives the reason's on their website, last few paragraphs

    http://www.newyorkstadium.net/news

"The New York Stadium derives from the area in which the new stadium is based. The old Guest and Chrimes foundary made the distinctive fire hydrants which are now dotted around the streets of New York."

That factory opened in 1857, New York was already inhabited by then.

I've been known to have a lunchtime pint in the fairways.. The terrace overlooking the fairway is a nice place to have a pint on a sunny day.

Not sure the golfers teeing off, feel the same

Nice one mate. I reckon the golfers love playing to the people on the terrace, makes them feel like they in The Open!
