Roughest player seen at Oakwell

    Derek Dooley. 16th. Feb. 1952. Fractured goalkeeper Harry Hough's arm (he was being considered for the England "B" team at the time) Kicked McNeil so that he had to move from centre half to centre forward from where he headed the winning goal. Barnsley won 5-4 in front of a crowd of 29,795. That season Wed. were promoted to the 1st. Div. Barnsley were 20th.

    Hard as nails . Used to intimidate the opposition simply by trotting out onto the pitch !! However , you never saw him arguing with referees or his opponents .
