Get on the M18 onto M1 and then off at 35 ( Chapeltown) up thro' Ecclesfield and onto A61.

    Isn't the M1 chocker Junction 30 to 36?

could go A1 to Dearne Link - Birdwell - Chap - Ecclesfield (turn right at the new Indian Restaurant/pub) - Parson Cross. A61

    AA routeplanner does it differently

Join the M1 around Nottingham (after leaving the A1), leave M1 junc 33, then the rest via A61

    AA are bonkers

M1 on a late afternoon onwards from Jn26 up to M18 is a mess. I'm avoiding it, and I'd recommend you try and do the same unless you've got all afternoon off then set off early.

    Same

    I'm going to be struggling...

Roadworks near M18 usually add 45mins - hour onto my journey on a friday night. hopefully it won't be as bad tomorrow

there are generally big queues on the A1 heading north at 5 lane ends due to ongoing roadworks

but if you manage to get onto the A57, follow it all the way to the sheffield parkway. They've just opened the relief road at the bottom of the parkway that takes you straight onto middlewood road. Shouldn't be too bad on the parkway, the traffic is heading the other way at that time of day

    Few options

Seems I have a few choices...

We can leave work soon which helps, but we have to pick up my sisters boyfriend from near Peterborough.

Dad suggested going back to the A14, up the M1 as normal, but Peterborough is a lot nearer the A1 so that would be quicker.

I've looked at routes via Chesterfield (to avoid congestion on the M1), and routes from Wisbech (where her bf lives).

    Any suggestions?

Dirk, do you think M1 or A1 would be quicker/easier?

    RE: Few options

If you hit the M1 roadworks between Jn 31 and 32 before 3.30-ish I'd think you'll be okay.

If later, leave the M1 at 29, go to Chesterfield and pick up the A61 which takes you into Sheff centre.

I'd be tempted to go the A1 route though. Personally I'm coming down from my cave on the moors onto the A61 and going that way if I don't get away from work in time. If I do, then calling at meadowhall to finish my Christmas shopping said the metrosexual Hartog.

    RE: Few options

3.30 ish? The roadworks that bad then eh?

The Chesterfield route seems a fairly decent way, but I'm still tempted by the A1 too, what needs navigating if we go the A1 way? How much of a problem will the M18 be?

So much hard work to get to fecking Sheffield

To be fair, once it's late afternoon the South Yorks traffic system is shagged. Pick a route and try to stay calm......

Avoid the M1 Northbound around Nottingham.

    It's nearly always rammed.

Some of our lot are setting off via car from London at 15.00

These posts aren't filling me with confidence that my lift home will even get there!

Are there still the roadworks at Luton ?

They'll be alright if they don't hit any queues. Needs caning though imho.
