That's a shame but I can see why the Don has ruled it out.

The club is stagnant. Has not progressed since promotion in '06 and making zero efforts to move forwards. Results and inconsistent performances also not helping and we are heading into the Xmas period where money is tight for many a fan or potential fan.
Is some initiative from the club better than none at all?

It's OK breaking even now, but with the support dwindling month by month...

Are we gonna make a loss in the end? If the crowds go below 8,000 what will Don & co do to try and increase the crowds? If they do nothing, they could drop even further and then we would surely be making a loss on such small attendances?

Does anyone actually believe that it costs more than 5 quid to the club per extra fan who turns up? ******** Don

8000 normally so if the crowd rises to 9000 our costs rise by over 5000 quid? Not a chance. Sell out and it COSTS over 75,000 pound MORE to host the game than it usually costs for a barnsley game.

    Really don? Really?

Well he would rule it out wouldn't he, it would mean he would have to do a bit of work to organise it and on the day if as hoped the attendance increased and lets face it he's on a good thing at Oakwell under no pressure from the boss and he can just tell the fan base to do one if they bother him. He's the biggest waste of fresh air since Barry Taylor our other work shy director. The club is going nowhere quickly at the moment the owner doesn't care and the other directors are a waste of good air.

Maybe on the day they would lose out by charging £5. But theres always the chance it could rekindle the interest for some fans and be beneficial long term

And also a slap in the face to Charlton Athletic FC.

We could have returned their pricing policy for our game as a good will gesture but no the club will cut off its nose to spite its face, charge their fans full price and their reaction(quite rightly) will be to vote with their feet meaning BFC loses out again.

    Another PR disaster.

His only response is, "Our ticket prices are as cheap as anyone else's". Two wrongs don't make a right - I bet he'd be saying that if everyone else's tickets were £100 and we were charging £80. The Marketing of BFC is absolutely pathetic even compared to teams in the 4th Division. Even when we do reduce prices, half the Barnsley public don't even know about it because we don't advertise anywhere but the Official site which is a waste of space and worse now than what it was 10 years ago. The club seems happy enough that us 8,000 mugs turn up every week whatever the weather or lack of entertainment on offer and that they don't need to "waste" any more time or effort on it.

at least out of courtesy the club should return the favour for the charlton game..

other than that for me they should charge 20 quid or maybe even 15,and it needs to be for a sustained period to guage any effects on profitability/attendences...one off matches where the price is dropped dont have enough effect,
we know that we are one of the cheapest in the championship but it doesnt matter, telling people we are one of the cheapest isnt drawing them to matches.

its not just the younger end that cant afford to come either,,,older people cant afford 20 odd quid either.

I would also advocate that club gets their heads together with the council and use the electric notice boards that have sprung up all over town to advertise any special prices,,,they manage to warn traffic of possible delays round oakwell so why cant they do a bit of pr from them.

"The Attendance only grew to 14,000 and that included a large away following"

That's says it all, you plod on with your crowds struggling towards 8,000.....

Bring on the takeover. Clear the clowns out of the club.

I feel for the Don in a way as he is just following orders.

Out of his depth beyond break even but doing as asked - breaking even or making a profit

He won't do owt to jeopardise that...

They won't break even after this current season even with the sales of Davies and Steele. Not with 8k crowds.
