Before he was substituted can you recall him doing anything?
The commentary didn't mention his name but they were quite glowing about Connell and Kane.
Maybe it's hard to fit into a system straight away but he was so anonymous. Or so it seemed to me.

Probably way off match fitness and pitches like last night won’t do him any favours but i saw enough of him in the second half against Cambridge and more importantly when he was Huddersfield’s best midfielder in there run to the playoffs to show me he’ll be a real asset in the run in .

Nothing of note unless you count the time he lost the ball on the edge of our area leading to the corner from which they scored
he was well off the pace the few times he got the ball I think he lost it or only passed it sideways.
Philllips was a massive improvement when he came on in fact thats probably the best 45 mins I've seen from Philips this season

Yes, yet another player to consign to the scrap heap. Written off for doing little on their full debut. Utter garbage, why do we sign such players! Sack the manager. Sack the board.

Can’t disagree with anything that’s been said. Nothing to worry about though. Rubbish pitch, low on match fitness. If he came away injury free it’s all vital minutes for me. Hopefully the Russell that came on against Cambridge, is the one we’ve got.

It’s great to see subs making an impact though. On Saturday, Phillips was average and Russell came on and made an impact. Last night, opposite. That’s what you want. Competition for the shirt.

I just hope that fans don’t jump on his back. We’ve already seen flashes of what he is capable of. We need to cut these players some slack as they get up to speed.

Pitch didn't suit his type of game. He's a technically gifted player but on a pitch like a cow's field, he found it difficult to assert his influence.Hell be good.on proper surfaces like Oakwell.

Im certainly not writing him off - its his first start in ages in a new team and on a ploughed field I'd expect it will take a few games to get up to speed and it will certainly help if he is playing on a better pitch. Hard to see him being on a worse one this season.
Be interesting to see who starts on Saturday Russell or Phillips

Fingers crossed he's not another can't do two games in a week Mellis...but let's cut the lad some slack ...we don't know what caused his fall from grace at Huddersfield, for all we know, he might have personal problems away from the game, that he's dealing with....we know there's a player in there, so its a case of coaxing it out of him
Let's not get on his back and start writing him off .....give the lad a chance to settle in

Duff says he swapped him out because the other lads understand the system and what's needed of them better. Suggesting he's not yet in tune with the way we play.

When somebody said he's the new Carlton Palmer when we signed him I thought that's not selling him to me. That Cruyff turn, run and shot vs Cambridge shows me there's a player there.

Russell is simply the latest player over recent years to have a less than impressive league start for us. There's always been a few people who leap to be the first to criticise a newby. Thereafter, there'd be a refusal to acknowledge any positive contribution said player makes. Watkins, Potts, Andersen & Sollbauer are names that have copped for this, simply off the top of my head.

He also talked about playing a certain way on a pitch like that which I think alludes to what @Simon De Montforte is saying above

His 1st start since 1st of October against Reading. Cut him some slack playing his third game in quick succession after no starts for four and a half months.

If all that Russell achieves in his career with us is that turn and shot last Satdi, then it'll do for me.
Because it would still equate to 40x more than Brek Shea achieved.

I'm 100% convinced he will be a great asset.

Not a stack to judge them on - but it would be unfair to make any conclusion anyway as at that point their role was just to come on and see the game out, not provide any real attacking threat.

As someone else said on another thread, possibly Jay, this Duff team sees games out and holds onto leads better than any other of ours I’ve known.
