He played, what, 5 games for us. For at least the first two he seemed to be running round aimlessly, pretty much like Lalkovic did. Then he had a decent game, whereby unlike the rest of our players he at least tried to go forwards with the ball. But the way he's built up on here makes him sound like the second coming of Glavin or Hignett. Don't get me wrong, he was okay and if we had the chance to bring him back I think he'd be worth playing, but I can't help feeling he's being built up a tad.

Can understand where your coming from.
We have had so many midfielders who are just content to pass sideways or backwards it would be so refreshing to have someone who is prepared to run at the opposition which is what Williams was capable of doing.
As a team we have lacked someone of that nature for far too long imo

Been thinking along those lines myself for months. Some people bang on about him as if (a) he's our player just waiting to come back or (b) he's the answer to all our prayers. I liked him, in an average sort of Brendan O'Connell run about kind of style, but I'm not sure he would transform our prospects just like that.

Happy to see him if he came back, but not sure why so many seem to think he's the Messiah. He might be just a naughty boy :D

    He's a young Jim O'Brien. Nothing more.

He's quality. Fantastic engine, technique to die for, forward thinking and still young. Similar to Scowen though so not exactly a priority. The other lad, O'Sullivan, he was of the same quality but plays out wide so I'd go for him if it was a choice of the two. We can but dream.

I rate him so I'd have him back. I'd prefer JOS, both would be fantastic but Williams would improve the team in my opinion so he's the type of player we should be trying to get.

Quality would be fantastic here. Does stuff non of our other players does...he runs at defenders and asks questions of the opposition.

This is it really isn't it. We've been starved of players that actually take the game to the opposition for so long that as soon as we have one on loan for 4 or 5 games they're the best thing since sliced bread. Saying that, I'd be more than happy to have him or O'Sullivan (or both) back.

Spot on. If we were to sign Williams, we could go back to playing the effective version of the diamond that brought the best out of Conor.

Our best attacking play last season was the few games williams hourirane and winnall played together.

Williams was decent but it surprises me when his name gets put alongside O'Sullivan who was far better.

Worth noting that Williams spell in the team came when he had a fully fit 1st team & were able to field-

    Turnbull
    Cranie Ramage Nyatanga Dudgeon
    Berry Bailey Hourihane
    Williams
    Winnall Cole

I felt he gave us some energy but he wasn't great on the ball or anything like that. I'm not sure I'd have him back I'd rather U.S. target a couple of proper wingers & a forward

Really? He gave a masterclass at Bramall Lane in how to glue the ball to your boots, incredible technique.

I'd have him back in a heartbeat. Quality player that transformed the team.

Didn't turn itself into results though, like it did when O'Sullivan was with us. Two wins, a draw and two defeats in Williams' five games and then we knocked 8 in over the first two games without him. Even during Williams' time here we were unlucky not to beat the runaway champions, but Williams wasn't playing that game.

I just felt that people were clutching at straws when they used 'missing Williams' as one of the reasons for our poor run around Christmas time, when it wasn't like he'd been ever present till then and man of the match every game, or even that we had gone on a particularly good run when he was in the team.

I just think fhat if we did sign him again he may well be what we're missing (we certainly do need that link between a defensive midfield and our attacking players), but he may also prove not to be the player that one win at Bramall Lane makes people think he is. When he left I was still undecided about him, in much the same way that most of us were undecided on Brek Shea after his first few games (i.e. Before we all realised he played like he'd never seen a football before!).

    Agree.

Also 'missing Williams' came around the same time as Winnall, Cranie & Ramage were out injured
